The Bank of Ireland Munster Clubs Age-Grade launch took place at Irish Independent Park tonight ahead of a series of quarter-final and semi-final rounds.

48 clubs from across the U16 Cup, Bowl and Plate and U18 Cup, Bowl and Plate competitions were represented with 132 club members in attendance.

A total of 265 U16 and 288 U18 games have been played so far across all competitions and throughout the province.

Irish Independent Park will host two festivals of youth rugby consisting of the Bank of Ireland Munster U16 and U18 Club competition finals.

During the weekend of Sunday 24 March, the Cork venue will host five finals with the U16 Bowl, U16 Plate, U16 Cup, U18 Bowl and U18 Cup competitions down for decision.

Irish Independent Park will welcome the remaining finalists during the weekend of Sunday 31 March with the U16 Development Plate/Bowl, U16 Development Cup, U18 Development Plate/Bowl, U18 Development Cup, and U18 Plate finals taking place.

The U16 and U18 Development Cup and Plate competitions will commence during the weekend of Saturday 2 March and Saturday 9 March.

Speaking at the draw, Munster Branch President Ger Malone said: “There are high numbers involved across the competitions with 42 U16 teams and 43 U18 teams playing matches on a weekly basis.

“I would like to thank our sponsors, Bank of Ireland, all of the club coaches involved and the MAR who officiate all of our games.

“The very best of luck to all players involved in the play-offs.”

Rob Heffernan, Bank of Ireland Youth & Community Ambassador, said: “It’s great to see all of the counties in Munster represented here tonight.

“The players are all young role models in their communities and it’s great to see them already excelling in their sport at such a young age.”
