Bank of Ireland Junior League Preview

The second last series of games in the top two divisions of the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior League are down for decision this weekend, together with two outstanding games in Division 3 to determine venues and pairings for the promotion play-off series.

In Division 1, defending champions Bandon and Richmond have postponed their tie until Sunday February 24th, when it will double up with the Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Cup decider at Irish Independent Park.

Crosshaven and Skibbereen get proceedings underway in a mid-table clash under lights at Myrtleville Cross.

Leaders and former champions Clonmel make the relatively short trip to Ballinakill to take on Waterpark, who have a game in hand. The South Tipperary side will be looking to take another step closer to regaining their title, while Waterpark are 10th.

Second-placed Newcastle West will be looking to keep their challenge for the title intact as they will be expected to prove too strong for Galbally in West Limerick. Galbally recorded a valuable 17-0 home win over St Senan’s last time out in their battle against the drop.

Clanwilliam and Kilfeacle lock horns in a West Tipperary derby in Tipperary Town, with both sides entering the tie on the back of defeats. Kilfeacle will be looking to keep their challenge for a top four finish intact, while Clanwilliam are ninth.

At the foot of the table, Kanturk who recorded a valuable home win over Clanwilliam last time out, face a tough assignment as they make the relatively short trip to West Limerick to take on Abbeyfeale.

St Mary’s and St Senan’s lock horns in a basement clash at Jimmy Slattery Park, with the Limerick side propping up the table and St Senan’s hovering above the drop zone.

There are four Cork derbies in Division 2.

Mallow promoted last week are away to Charleville, and Charleville are the only side to defeat Mallow this season. A win for Mallow will see them go up as champions.

Fermoy are at home to Cobh Pirates and Clonakilty, who look most likely to claim the second promotion spot, are away to Muskerry.

At the foot of the table, bottom side Ballincollig are away to Youghal with both sides coming off the back of heavy defeats by Clonakilty and Cobh Pirates respectively.

Third-placed Kinsale travel to the Premier County to take on struggling Thurles, with the South Cork side seven points behind Clonakilty in the promotion race.

Castleisland and Waterford City, who are both hovering above the drop zone, are at home to Old Christians and Fethard respectively.

Dungarvan entertain Chorca Dhuibhne in Division 3 with the West Waterford side one point behind Mitchelstown. A win for Dungarvan would see them leap frog Mitchelstown into second place and guarantee them home advantage in the play-offs.

Fifth-placed Ennis are at home to sixth-placed Killorglin to decide who will take the final play-off place.
