Bank Of Ireland Munster Senior Challenge Cup Draw

The draw has been made for the 2020/21 Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Challenge Cup with 16 teams set to battle it out for the prestigious trophy.

Munster Junior League Division 1 champions and All Ireland Junior Cup winners Kilfeacle and District RFC joined Munster’s 15 All Ireland League clubs in the draw.

Munster Rugby President Seán McCullough and Munster Rugby Competitions Co-ordinator James Neville conducted the draw at Irish Independent Park this afternoon.

The first round draw has pitted Cashel v Clonmel in a Tipperary derby with Sunday’s Well RFC and Midleton facing off in a Cork derby.

Kilfeacle take on Bruff, UL Bohemians face Nenagh Ormond and Dolphin will battle Old Crescent.

Those games will be played on the weekend of September 5/6.

The winners of those five ties will progress to the second round, which will take place the following weekend.

There was a draw to see which club from All Ireland League Division 1B sides Highfield and Shannon would receive a bye to the quarter-finals with Highfield drawn to progress straight into the last eight along with the four Division 1A clubs.

Shannon were drawn away to Kilfeacle or Bruff in the second round with the winners of the Cork derby hosting UL Bohs or Nenagh Ormond as Dolphin or Old Crescent were drawn at home against the winners of Cashel v Clonmel.

The second round will be played on the weekend of September 12.

All Ireland League Division 1A clubs Cork Constitution, Garryowen, UCC and Young Munster all received an automatic bye into the quarter-finals along with Highfield.

The quarter-final draw saw Young Munster drawn for a home fixture against holders Cork Constitution in a repeat of last year’s final, UCC will host Highfield in a Cork derby and Garryowen will have a home fixture.

Those games will take place on the weekend of September 19.

The semi-finals and final of this year’s Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Challenge Cup will take place on the first two weekends of December.

Speaking at the draw, Munster Rugby President Seán McCullough said: “I think that this year’s Senior Cup will have an added edge to it and no doubt will throw up a few surprise results.

“We wish all of our teams the best of luck in the cup and for the season ahead.”
