Bank of Ireland Senior Challenge Cup Round Up

The quarter-final line-up for the Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Challenge Cup was completed after the three remaining outstanding games were decided over the weekend.

There was a thriller at Rosbrien where Highfield edged out old crescent with an injury-time try to win 29-24.

Highfield dominated the opening half and led 17-3 at half time with tries from Ben Murphy, Cathal Gallagher and Paul Buckley. Shane O’Riordan converted one and Ronan McKenna replied with a penalty for Old Crescent.

Tries by Kevin Doyle and Cathal Monahan both converted by Jack Broderick brought the sides level. Ben Murphy put Highfield back in front with an unconverted try but a try by Cian Reale converted by Broderick edged the Limerick side ahead 24-22 with seventeen minutes remaining.

Highfield laid siege to the Crescent line and were rewarded with a try by Eddie Earle in added time and O’Riordan converted.

Highfield will now face Cashel next week in the quarter-finals after the Tipperary side defeated Dolphin 32-6. James Kendrick, Tommy Anglim, Keith Melbourne, and Niall Fitzgerald scored tries for Cashel and Jonty Rae kicked a penalty and two conversions.

Sunday’s Well got revenge for last season’s Cup defeat by Bruff, when they defeated the Co. Limerick side 26-15 at Irish Independent Park. Peter O’Brien, Ross O’Mahony, Josh Featherstone and Conor O’Brien scored tries for the ‘Well and Michael Boland added three conversions.
