Bantry Bay Girls Showcase Skills On International Stage

Bantry Bay Girls headed to Ashbourne in numbers last Friday night to play their part in the 6 Nations Womens Ireland v Wales international clash.

The U15 team were chosen to do a guard of honour on the night and to play an exhibition game of rugby at half time against Virginia RFC, Co. Cavan.

It was a huge occasion and the coaches were delighted that all the U18 team members travelled to support the younger squad members and to mark a historic night in the development of rugby in the club.

The club would like to acknowledge the support from Munster Women’s Development officer Amanda Greensmith who was on hand to assist and support us on the night. The club was inundated with good luck messages from the local community, other clubs and while travelling the long journey the messages, tweets kept rolling in from family, friends, 2FM and some of the Irish players.

It was an amazing night for all the girls. The chance to watch this successful Irish team defend their Grand Slam title in tough conditions against a strong Welsh team demonstrated the opportunities that are there for women in the sport of rugby. The club are confident that if the girls continue to work hard they will represent Bantry Bay RFC once again at a similar level.

Bantry Bay RFC would like to acknowledge the work of the coaches Eugene McCarthy, Damien Hicks, Denyse Scully and Marie Lithgow. Thanks is also expressed to the parents & supporters who travelled, team sponsors Revolution –IT, to Cremin Coaches for their sponsorship towards transport costs and a special mention to all the girls who are a pleasure to train and a credit to their families and the club.

New members are always welcome please contact Denyse Scully at (086) 3819330 or dhscully@gmail.com for details.
