Big Upset In Cork Charity Cup

Cashel caused a major upset in their first game as a Senior club with a 17-13 home win over holders Cork Constitution in the quarter final of the Cork Charity Cup.

Cashel trailed 6-0 at half time with two penalties from Gerry Hurley giving the visitors the lead. Cork Constitution extended their advantage to 13-0 when Cathal Quinn scored a try which Hurley converted five minutes into the second half.
Ed Leamy opened Cashel’s account with a try and then Conor Quinlan finished off an excellent move with a second try mid way through the half and Darragh O’Brien converted. Fifteen minutes from time Emmett Hough touched down following a push over from the Cashel pack.

Dolphin defeated U.C.C. 28-12 to set up a semi final meeting with Cashel after their victory at Curaheen Road. The visitors led 16-0 at half time with tries from John Cleary and Barry Keeshan. The Dolphin out half also added two penalties.
Christy Condon and Keeshan added further tries after the break with Keeshan converting his own try to bring his total to eighteen.

Midleton defeated Clonakilty in the all Division 2A clash at The Vale 18-12.
Peter Brougham gave the East Cork side a 3-0 lead at half time. Brougham added a try conversion and a penalty in the second half and Kieran Burns also scored a try. Clonakilty replied with tries from Joe Crowley and Darragh Lynch with Matt Kirby converting one.

Midleton will now face Highfield in the other simi final after the Woodleigh Park side recorded a 25-6 home win over Sunday’s Well. The Well led 6-3 at half time with two penalties from Eamon Ronan to one Colin Mahony. However the home side took their chances in the second half running in four tries from John Murphy, Richard Childs, Darragh Buckley-Barry and John Sheehan. Rick Jacobs converted one of the tries.

In the Limerick Charity Cup holders Young Munster defeated Bruff 24-0 at Clifford Park, Shannon were 33-22 away winners over Nenagh Ormond and in the Division 2A clash at Rosbrien Thomond defeated Old Crescent 12-3.

In an exciting contest at Annacotty U.L. Bohemian edged out Garryowen 14-13.
