Bowen Shield Update
4th October 2012 By Munster Rugby

Rockwell and St. Munchin’s have joined CBC at the top of the Bowen Shield after they both won their second games in the competition.
Rockwell 20, P.B.C. 8
Rockwell made it two wins from two with a 20-8 home win over PBC. Aided by a strong gale in the opening half, Rockwell had Pres’ on the back foot from the kick-off, but bad handling in scoring positions proved to be costly for the home side.
They took the lead with a try from skipper Ben Riley after winger Shane Lanigan Ryan intercepted and got the Rockwell back line moving. Wing forward Tommy Anglim converted from a difficult angle.
Pres’ began to get a grip of the game with excellent work by Eddie Ryan out of touch and Michael Fitzgibbon was prominent around the fringes.
Pres’ left winger Seafra Guilfoyle pulled off a try-saving tackle entering the second quarter after the home side spread the ball out to right winger Alan McMahon, following a scrum on the visitors’ Twenty-Two. Second row John Power won the resulting five-meter lineout for the home side and set up left winger Shane Lanigan-Ryan for a try in the opposite corner.
Rockwell extended their advantage to 15-0 with a penalty by Anglim.
Good work by wing forward Andrew Ring resulted in out half David O’Sullivan slotting over a penalty for Pres’ on the stroke of half time.
Rockwell increased their advantage six minutes into the second half when Willie Coffey barged over in the corner following a ruck deep inside the visitors’ Twenty-Two.
Pres’ refused to give up without struggle as they had Rockwell pinned back entering the final quarter and Fitzgibbon was credited with a pushover try from a maul following a five-meter lineout, fifteen minutes from time.
The visitors tried desperately to earn a losing bonus point and right winger Conor Barrett was deemed to have stepped into touch short of the line.
