Br. Matthew Corkery OSB

1st February 2012 By Munster Rugby

Br. Matthew Corkery OSB

It was with great sadness on Tuesday last that we learnt of the sudden passing of Br. Matthew Corkery of Glenstal Abbey at the young age of 41.

Br Matthew was involved in schools rugby representing Glenstal Abbey School and this current season he showed his excellent skills as an administrator, when he was appointed co-ordinator by the Munster Schools committee of this season’s Bowen Shield and McCarthy Cup school competitions. These competitions were run without a problem and on time and full credit was due to his skills in achieving this.

Munster Rugby would like to extend their deepest sympathy to his father Finbarr and mother Carmel, his sisters Mary and Fiona and brother David, the Abbot and monastic community of Glenstal; staff students and parents of Glenstal Abbey School and his wide circle of friends.

Br. Matthew’s remains will be reposing in the monastery from 3.30pm to 5.00pm on Thursday 2nd February, followed by removal to the Abbey Church. Funeral Mass on Friday 3rd February at 11.30am followed by burial in the Abbey Cemetery.
