Briggs Shortlisted For Sportsperson Of The Year Award

Munster’s Niamh Briggs has been shortlisted for the RTE Sport Sports Person of the Year award

The nomination is further recognition for her performances this season after she picked up the Women's Player of the Year award for a second successive season at the annual Guinness Rugby Writers of Ireland Awards last month.

The winner of the RTÉ Sports Person of the Year Award will be unveiled at the broadcaster’s annual awards ceremony which takes place on Sunday, 21st December.

The UL Bohemian, Munster and Ireland star has been rewarded for her fantastic performances at full-back during the Women's Rugby World Cup.

Briggs excelled in all aspects of her game, but especially from the kicking tee, as Ireland recorded victories over New Zealand, USA and Kazakhstan. Briggs' performances also earned her a nomination for IRB Women's Player of the Year.

The Dungarvan native is a former Gaelic Footballer with Waterford and works as a Garda in Limerick.

She is joined on the shortlist by Irish international Jonathan Sexton with Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt in the running for the manager of the year accolade.
