Bruff Advance to Bateman All Ireland Cup Final
24th January 2011 By Munster Rugby
Bruff’s great run with Cup rugby continues after a dramatic rally in the final quarter gave them a 24-22 victory over unbeaten U.C.D. at Kilballyowen Park.
UCD looked probable winners when they led 22-7 after 55 minutes but were rocked by the Bruff comeback which saw the pack drive over twice for John Shine to grab two tries, the second in the 80th minute, and Tony Cahill sparked intense excitement by landing the conversion.
Bruff were awarded a penalty try after fourteen minutes which Brian Cahill converted. A penalty by James Thornton and a try by Andy Cummiskey which Thorton converted had UCD in front at the interval.
Tries by Dave McSherry, 41 minutes and Michael Twomey, 55 minutes, with Thornton converting the first of them made it 22-7.
Shine's two tries and a penalty by Tony Cahill gave Bruff a stunning win.
