Bruff Begin Defence Of ODM Munster Senior Cup

Holder’s Bruff open their defence of both their ODM Munster Senior Cup and Ulster Bank All Ireland Cup trophies with a home tie against Clonakilty.

Neither of these sides got beyond their opening games in their respective Charity Cups but the odds must be on Bruff getting over this hurdle which would set them up for a home quarter final meeting with the winners of the Midleton and Highfield clash.

Midleton and Highfield meet for the second successive week at the Towns Park and the visitors will be boosted by their 14-11 victory last week in the Cork Charity Cup. Midleton should have won this tie if they had converted the numerous missed penalty chances. However they are likely to have learned from this encounter and should avenge last week’s defeat.

Two other sides who have met already this season in the Limerick Charity Cup are Nenagh Ormond and Shannon. These sides meet again at the Tipperary venue this Friday evening with a 7.30 kick off. Shannon will be expected to advance but know they are in for a tough encounter.

The game of the round will be the meeting of old rivals Cork Constitution and Garryowen at Temple Hill. The home side will want to bounce back after their early exit in the Charity Cup after their defeat by Cashel, while Garryowen were also on the losing end in their opening Charity Cup encounter against U.L. Bohemian. Home advantage should see Constitution advance.

The winners of the Temple Hill encounter will be away to the winners of the Dolphin Old Crescent tie which goes ahead at Musgrave Park. Dolphin will be expected to advance with a bit to spare.

There is a repeat of the 2009 final when Young Munster take on U.C.C. at Clifford Park. The Cookies have recorded two easy victories in the Charity Cup to set up a final meeting with Shannon and will be expected to repeat their 2009 final victory with a win over the students.

The other tie sees Thomond entertain U.L. Bohemian at Fitzgerald Park and the visitors should advance where the prize for the winners is a trip to Cashel in the last eight.
