The Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Challenge Cup final takes place on Saturday 5 January with Garryowen and Cork Constitution contesting for the prestigious club title at Thomond Park, kick-off 2pm.

Munsterrugby.ie caught up with the squad captains ahead of the new year clash.

Dean Moore, Garryowen Captain:

“I am hugely honoured to be captaining Garryowen, as we seek to win the Munster Senior Challenge Cup for the 40th time since our establishment in 1884. While we have won the All Ireland League three times and the All Ireland Cup twice, the Munster Senior Challenge Cup has a special place in the hearts of all Garryowen people.

“You’re left in no doubt in Garryowen that you can never win this competition enough times, so we will be going all out to keep our record in this competition going.

“While we have had a good run up to the final, we are very aware that our great rivals Cork Constitution, who also have a great record in the competition, are standing in our way. No Munster Senior Challenge Cup match, particularly a final, is ever easy, so it will be a very tough test, for both teams. I hope that we can cement our season around a win, for the 40th time.”

Niall Kenneally, Cork Constitution Captain:

“It is a huge honour to be captain of Cork Constitution. We are a club with a proud history and tradition and it’s a privilege to lead this team.

“We have had enjoyed great fortune in the Munster Senior Challenge Cup in recent years, and we are eager for further success in this fantastic competition.

“The Munster Senior Challenge Cup is a prestigious title and it is fitting that two teams with such a brilliant rivalry will go head to head for the trophy once again. As players, we play for occasions like this and we’re looking forward to the latest encounter.

“I’d like to thank our coaches, management and all involved in our club for their continued effort and support this year. We hope to make them proud in what promises to be another massive occasion.”
