Castletroy Win In SEAT Schools Cup

Castletroy College have beaten Glenstal Abbey 10-7 at Rosbrien in the opening fixture of the SEAT Schools Senior Cup first round.

All of the points were scored in the opening half with winger Colum Carroll touching down after just five minutes to give Castletroy an early lead with Jamie Heuston slotting the conversion.

Glenstal drew level almost immediately as Colm Hogan, full-back for the Munster Schools side in their victorious Interprovincial campaign, touched down.

Jack Stafford obliged with the conversion but Heuston's penalty on 28 minutes proved to be the decisive score as Castletroy made the perfect start to the campaign.

Castletroy will now have home advantage in the quarter-finals as Glenstal – victors over St. Clement’s in the recent qualifier – face an away quarter-final as they look to get their campaign back on track.

The three other first round clashes take place today as Crescent College Comprehensive's Senior Cup side start their bid to win three-in-a-row with a highly anticipated tie against CBC at Clifford Park.

St. Munchin's face Ardscoil Rís in Thomond Park and PBC take on Rockwell College at UCC's Mardyke sports ground in Cork.
