CBC to meet CCC in Avonmore Junior Cup Final
10th March 2010 By Munster Rugby
CBC guaranteed that the final of the Avonmore Munster Schools Junior Cup will be in Cork when they held on to beat St Munchin’s in the semi-final at Dooradoyle today. They will now meet Crescent College Comprehensive in the final.
Ard Scoil Ris, Limerick 8
Christian Brothers College, Cork, 12
The Limerick side were unfortunate to have a try disallowed after only five minutes when an attempted clearance was blocked and it seemed that Rob Whyte had won the race for the touchdown.
CBC suffered a blow when their outhalf Sean Quill had to retire injured after fourteen minutes. But his replacement, Thomas Quinlan, immediately made an impact when he linked with Jack Whooley to send Chris McAuliffe in for a try after seventeen minutes which scrumhalf Ryan Foley converted.
Four minutes before the interval the Ard Scoil Ris forwards drove over the line and hooker Cathal Flanagan got the try.
Ard Scoil Ris totally dominated the opening eighteen minutes of the second half but were rocked by a second CBC try. Ryan Foley kicked ahead, the ball bounced awkwardly for the defence and McAuliffe grabbed possession and raced in far out.
CBC had a player sinbinned and Ronan McKenna kicked a penalty for the infringement but try as they might Ard Scoil could not manage another score with winger Rob Whyte being bundled into touch two metres from the line in the last second.
