CBC Win Junior Cup Replay

Holders C.B.C. will play Crescent College Comprehensive in the semi finals of the Munster Schools Junior Cup next Wednesday 13th March at Tom Clifford Park after a win over Rockwell in their quarter fianl replay at Musgrave Park.

C.B.C. 22, Rockwell College 21.
Christians just about edged this quarter final replay in a very entertaining tie.

Rockwell were forced to re-adjust their team when out half Bill Johnston was forced to cry off with an injury just before the game and this resulted in Rockwell having to make several changes to the selected side.

Rockwell were ahead after a minute when Jack Kennedy converted a penalty. Rockwell were enjoying the better of the early exchanges but once Christians settled they were level on fourteen minutes when Michael O’Halloran kicked a penalty.

Both Mikey Wilson and skipper Darren Fehilly were just stopped short of the Christians line. From a line out five meters from the CBC line, quick ball out saw Brian McLoughlin go in for a try, which went unconverted.

The holders hit back and were in front on twenty five minutes when full back Shane Murphy was stopped short of the line and James Humphries was on hand to touch down and O’Halloran converted for a 10-8 lead.

A wild pass by Rockwell scrum half Daryl Egan was intercepted by Oisin Conway who raced over seventy meters to score and O’Halloran converted for a 17-8 half time lead.

Penalties on 33 and 37 minutes by Kennedy closed the gap to three points as Rockwell staged a recovery.

Sensing an upset Christians lifted their game and Conway was again on hand to score his side’s third try following a series of drives by the pack at the Rockwell line.

The Tipperary side never gave in and their efforts were rewarded with a try by Stephen Quirke which Kennedy converted to leave a point between the sides as the final whistle sounded.
