CBS Midleton Teachers’ Play Rugby
5th November 2015 By Munster Rugby
Following on from the success of the IRFU Play Rugby programme for fifth and sixth class students the CBS Midleton school teachers recently took part in a Coaching Workshop.
The teachers participated in a Leprechaun Rugby Coaching Course to further develop their coaching techniques as they continue to focus on the rugby development of their students.
In total 18 CBS Midleton teachers took part in Leprechaun Rugby practical participation through fun games, touch rugby and also the application of scrum and lineout.
The teachers will continue to provide rugby for the children in the school using the Play Rugby Pack they received during their recent Schools Blitz day.
The origins of the Play Rugby programme are based on research that found participating in sports can have a healthy developmental impact on young children.
These activities can promote co-operative play, teamwork and good sportsmanship, a key component in the ethos of rugby.
The Play Rugby programme contains classroom plans and teaching aids to assist teachers, coaches and parents involved in rugby at mini and primary school level.
The programme consists of full service packs that are delivered to schools through Munster Community Rugby Officers and allows teachers who have no experience of rugby to bring the game to the children in their classes.
All schools, teachers and parents interested in the programme are encouraged to contact their local Munster Community Rugby Officer or email info@munsterrugby.ie for further details.
