Charity Cups Get Season Under Way.

Cork Constitution retained their Cork Charity Cup title, as there were no upsets in the opening round of the Limerick Charity Cup.

Rolling Substitutions are being introduced on an experimental basis in the Charity Cup and ODM Financial Munster Senior Cup this season at the request of the IRFU.

The 2009/10 Cork Charity Cup final was decided at Temple Hill where the home side proved much too strong for Dolphin winning 33-20.

The Con’ pack dominated through out and despite playing into the wind led 20-10 at half time with tries from Richard Lane and Sean Scanlon. Lane converted both and also added two penalties. Kyle O’Dwyer replied with a try for Dolphin and Barry Keeshan kicked a conversion and penalty.

Sean Scanlon and Frank Cogan added further tries for the winners and Lane kicked a penalty as Con’ led by twenty points at the three quarter stage but Dolphin never gave up and were rewarded with a try from Chris Roe and a conversion and penalty by Keeshan.

Bruff and Thomond got the season under way last Wednesday evening in the first of the Limerick Charity Cup quarter finals. Victory went to Bruff on a 25-18 scoreline.

Thomond raced into an early 12-0 lead with tries from Ger Finnucane and Fernando Gallant and a Geoff Ryan conversion.

The home side hit back with tries from Ger Leonard, Niall Riordan and Brian Deady and Brian Cahill converted two of the tries and kicked two penalties. Kevin O’Mahony kept Thomond in contention with two penalties.

In the other quarter finals Shannon easily overcame the challenge of Old Crescent at Rosbrien 44-13, while holders Young Munster booked their semi final spot with a 33-21 victory at home to Nenagh Ormond.
