Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Cup Action Returns

The Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior and Junior Cup competitions return this month with first and second round action taking place across the province.

Rockwell College and CBS High School Clonmel go head-to-head at Irish Independent Park (1pm) as Ardscoil Rís and Glenstal Abbey face off at Markets Field (3pm) in the first round of the Senior Cup tomorrow.

Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí qualified for the Schools Junior Cup for the first time this season and meet Bandon Grammar School in a West Cork derby in the first round on Wednesday, 22 January at Irish Independent Park, 2pm.

Castletroy College and Glenstal Abbey contest the other first round encounter at Markets Field on Thursday, 23 January, from 2.30pm.

Round two of the Schools Senior Cup gets underway on Tuesday, January 28 and Wednesday, January 29, with schools in action across the province.

Bandon Grammar School and either Rockwell College or CBS High School Clonmel are set to play one another at Irish Independent Park on Tuesday.

Christian Brothers College meet Castletroy College and Presentation Brothers College face Crescent College Comprehensive at Irish Independent Park, while St. Munchin’s College go head-to-head with either Ardscoil Rís or Glenstal Abbey at Thomond Park on Wednesday.

The third round of the Schools Senior Cup will take place during the week beginning February 10 with the fourth round commencing the week beginning February 24 following the mid-term break.

The Senior Cup final is scheduled for the week beginning March 16.

The second round of the Schools Junior Cup takes place on Wednesday, February 5, while the third round is scheduled during the week commencing February 24, following the mid-term break, and the fourth round is scheduled for the week beginning March 2.

The Junior Cup final will take place during the week beginning March 23.

Teams in both the Senior and Junior Cup competitions played a round-robin series of fixtures in a new-look format, which introduced group stages pre-Christmas for the first time.

Schools were divided into two groups, Group A and Group B, with teams seeded for knockout rounds based on their performance in the group stages.

A Munster Club Select Player (CSP) side representing clubs from across the province was introduced for the first time in the Senior Cup Group A competition.
