Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Cups

The final qualifiers for the Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior and Junior Cups take place tomorrow (Wednesday) at 2pm with the draw for the competition taking place later in the day.

The senior and junior teams of Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí and St Clement's face off in the final qualifiers with both games taking place at 2pm in Irish Independent Park.

The senior game will be played on the main pitch with the junior game on the back pitch.

In the semi-finals of the Senior Cup qualifiers, St Clement’s beat CBS High School Clonmel 33-3 last week while Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí beat Villiers School 36-15.

In the Junior Cup semi-finals, St Clement’s beat Clonmel 18-5 and Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí got a walkover.

If either of the final qualifiers finishes level after normal time, the winners will be decided by the following criteria:

A) Most tries scored
B) If both team have scored an equal amount of tries, the team that scored the first try will be awarded the win
C) If no try has been scored, the winners will be the team who scored first

Entry is via the Sunday's Well entrance only and there is a charge of €;5 for adults and €;3 for juniors.

First Round Draw
The draw for the first round of the Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior and Junior Cup competitions will take place tomorrow at 5pm in the Clayton Hotel Silver Springs, Cork.

The new format introduced last year proved a big success and will be continued this season with the one draw corresponding to both Senior and Junior Cup fixtures.

The first round of this season's competition kicks off on the week beginning Monday, January 16, 2017.

Five double headers will take place that week in the Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior and Junior Cups.

The five winners of those ties will advance to the last-eight stage with four of those teams getting a home draw.

One of the five losing teams will be given a bye into the quarter-finals with the other four going into the play-offs to decide the remaining two quarter-finalists – the play-offs take place on the week beginning January 23.

The Senior Cup quarter-finals will take place between January 30 and Friday, February 3 with the Junior Cup quarter-finals being played the following week.

The semi-finals in both the Senior and Junior Cup will be played on the week beginning February 27.

The finals of both competitions will be held on St Patrick’s Day – Friday, March 17.
