Closing Stages Of Cup Competitions This Weekend

The semi finals of the ODM Munster Senior Cup, Junior Clubs Challenge Cup, Shield and Martin O’Sullivan Cup are all down for decision this weekend.

It is three Limerick teams and one Tipperary side left in this season’s ODM Munster Senior Cup.

Defending champions Bruff face Cup specialists Shannon at Coonagh with a 2.30 kick off on Saturday. Both sides needed last minute tries last weekend to book their place in the last four.
A try from Peter Malone saw Bruff defeat Midleton 20-14, while Stephen Keogh was Shannon’s saviour snatching their late try against Young Munster. Bruff will have to show a big improvement if they are to reach their second successive final.

Newcomers to senior rugby Cashel have already caused a stir with their victory over U. L. Bohemian 13-3 last week and defeating Cork Constitution in the Cork Charity Cup earlier. They face Garryowen at Dooradoyle on Saturday and the home side can expect a tough encounter.
Garryowen have already recorded impressive victories in Cork with wins over Cork Constitution and Dolphin but their ace goal kicker Declan Cusack will not be eligible for this tie and his absence could be a big loss to Garryowen, but boosted by their recent wins the Dooradoyle side should book their place in the final.

Kilfeacle host Crosshaven in the second semi final of the Junior Clubs Challenge Cup with Richmond awaiting the winners in the final. Kilfeacle boosted by that big win over neighbours Clanwilliam could cause another shock with a victory over the current All Ireland Junior Cup holders.

In the Junior Clubs Shield semi finals Newcastle West will be hoping to make it three wins on the trot when they host Ballincollig after battling performances against St. Mary’s and Newport in the previous rounds. Ballincollig ran in four tries last week in their win over Youghal but will have to be at their best if they are to make it to the final.

The other semi final sees Kinsale at home to Presentation and both have recorded some impressive victories already in the competition. Kinsale defeated Muskerry and Killarney while the Limerick side defeated Bandon and Mallow. This will be a tough game for last season’s Third Division champions but on form Kinsale should shade it.

Waterford City are at home to Fermoy in the semi final of the Martin O’Sullivan Cup and after last season’s final defeat the Suirsiders will be anxious to go one better this time.

The other semi final sees Charleville at home to Dungarvan and after years of struggling at the foot of the table Dungarvan will fancy their chances of making it to the final.
