With a break for the International game, none of the Senior teams were in action last weekend, the focus switched to the underage teams with games against Galbally, Nenagh, and Fethard RFC

Thurles U-18s: Galbally 5 – 0 Thurles
Thurles U-18s travelled to Galbally and were narrowly edged out in what was a very physical game. There was a very high standard of rugby with outstanding performances from Paddy Dunican and Adam Troy. This game could have gone either way up to the very end. Thurles gave a huge defensive display today with some great tackles put in. There was great commitment from the team as a whole. Keep it up boys!

Thurles U-16s
Thurles U-16s will play Dungarvan next sunday in Dungarvan in the Quarter final of the East Munster Cup. Thurles RFC wishes the boys and their coaches every success

Thurles U-15s: Thurles 29-7 Nenagh
Thurles U-15s played Nenagh last Sunday in a friendly and it was Thurles who came out on top. Thurles started strongest scoring two tries which were converted by Paddy McGrath. Thurles passed ball through the hands moving the Nenagh pack around the field.

The Thurles pack also played well with Dirk Leimlehner making a break to score a good individual effort. Nenagh kept coming at Thurles and late in the match a missed tackle let Nenagh through to score their only try of the game, which they converted.

The game had to be blown up with 2 mins to play as the Thurles pitch is a designated landing spot for the air ambulance and unfortunately for someone they needed their service. The interruption caused great excitement

for the minis who had a mini blitz against Nenagh and Fethard on the back pitches.

Thurles U-14s: Thurles 15-27 Cashel
Thurles travelled to Cashel last Sunday for what was must win match to have an outside of progression to knock out stages of the East Munster league. Despite a brave effort and some very good scores the Thurles lads faded in the last 10 minutes conceding 3 tries. Thurles started brightly and had a lot of possesion in the Cashel 22 for the first 15 minutes of the game.

The pack controlled the ball well at the breakdown and Conor Bailey had a very good day in the lineout. Howvever it was the home side hwo opened the scorong after a succession pf penalties gave them filed position in the Thurles 22. Some brave defending held up Cashel a couple

""

of times but they eventually broke the deadlock 5 minutes before the break.

From the kick off Thurles got some filed position in the Cashel 22 and retained a couple of times before the backline executed a text book score putting the ball through the hands and sending John McGrath in the corner on the overlap. Cashel were quickest off the blocks in the second half and their big pack rumbled over after a series of rucks on the Thurles line. Thurles responded well when they moved a ball from a scrum in the middle of the field, Sam Quinlan fed Darragh McGahey who cut a lovely line in between his two centres before feeding James Devaney for a 40 metre mazing run in near the posts. This levelled the game.

SeamusTelford in action for Thurles at the weekend

Whilst Thurles's second try was a brillliant team effort the third was a superb individual effort again from Devaney who some how found enough space wide on the left to outstrip the Cashel defence evading many tackles and completing his 50 metre effort with a dive in try the corner. This was the high point for the Thurles lads. Unfortunately Cashel repsonded quickly and with 10 minutes remainng they equalised 15 all. With 5 minutes remining a long kicked clearance from Thurles landed in the Cashel wing forwards arms and he eveded several Thurles tackles to run in from his own 10 metre line under the posts which was duly converted.

This was a sucker blow for Thurles and they never recovered conceded another late try as the bench was emptied. we ahve a good young squad will return to training Tuesday night and prepare for the cup after Christmas.

Thurles Mini Blitz
There were huge numbers in Thurles on Sunday morning for the mini blitz seeing Thurles, Nenagh & Fethard competing. There were great displays of rugby from all teams from U-7 right up to U-12. A great time was had by all involved and it was wonderful to see such a large turnout to watch the games.

Annual Club Mass
This Thursday Nov. 27th at 8. 30 Thurles RFC hold their annual Mass for deceased members. You are invited to attend and their will be light refreshments after.

Monster Clothes Drive

We are currently collecting all your old clothes at the rugby club in a drive to raise some money for the underage teams. We would be grateful if anyone has old or unwanted clothes that can be donated over the next 2 weeks. Bags can be dropped off at the club most evenings at training or the weekends when the games are on.

Newcastle West 10-24 Dundalk
The town of Newcastle West came out in huge numbers last Saturday to see the 1st XV play in the Qtr. Final of the All Ireland Junior cup. Some people would say that it's all about winning but it is also about performing and playing your heart out while never giving up. This is what happened last Saturday when twenty players represented the club with pride and played their hearts out right up to the final minute of the game.

The opening few minutes were tense and the visitors were awarded a penalty after a collapsed scrum which was converted from the half way line after four minutes. The home side settled in to their pattern very quickly and were unlucky not to score on two occasions. Dundalk scored a penalty on twenty eight minutes and quickly followed up with a try on thirty minutes. The home side got a penalty in the thirty fourth minute taking the score to 3-11 at half time. To go in at half time with this was really not fair to the work rate of the team and most felt they were penalised unfairly on a number of occasions.

The second half started with the home side really upping the tempo with the charge being led by the outstanding Dave Foley, Dave can be proud of what was his finest performance in the black jersey.Unfortunately a yellow card against us gave the momentum to Dundalk and they scored a converted try and a penalty in that ten minute period.

The next twenty minutes would see Dundalk only enter the home sides half once to get a penalty which was converted, every member of the team played their hearts out but the defence of the visitors was not for buckling. The possession was dominated by us but again and again our advances were repelled by solid line of defence. We scored a try in the seventy ninth minute from James Kelly which Sean converted.

Sometimes you play above yourself and this was definitely one of those days where all players played really well but most importantly gave their all right up to the final whistle.

Man of the match was Dave Foley closely followed by Pa Galvin and Sean Corbett.

A historic day in the club's proud history. Thank you to all who made it a great day.

Next Sunday it is back to league action and we will need to get ourselves up again as we are the league leaders, the league is still the primary target of this team

It was another fantastic weekend for rugby on the national, provisional and local stage. Firstly congratulations to Ireland on their 26-23 win over the Australian Wallabies in Dublin on Saturday last. The win capped a fantastic three from three Autumn series for the National team, a series which saw Clonmel man David Foley make his Irish debut in the game against Georgia and also play the final twenty minutes in the win over Australia. The team can now focus on the Six Nations tournament buoyed by their recent successes.

On the provisional front Munster picked up a bonus point in their 39-12 win away to Newport Gwent Dragons. The win moves them to third place in the Guinness PRO12 table.

In Clonmel, while the first team were on a weekend off from active duty, there was no shortage of league action with four other teams playing either at home or away.

Friday evening saw our U-14s head to Carrick On Suir and secure an important 12-32 win in their league campaign. Tries from Edward McIntosh, Mark Sheehan, Cian Walsh and man of the match Cian Buttimer helping to secure the win.

""On Saturday evening our men's 2nd XV were away to Waterford City in their Junior 2 league and in a low scoring affair, two penalties from Clonmel's Darren Cass were all that separated the sides at the end, with Clonmel winning 0-6 on the night.

On Sunday morning our U18s played host to Waterford City in their U18s league and in what was a great team display came away 53-0 victors on the day. Outstanding performances right across the park highlighted the strong talent in the squad with Shane Gleeson, Keelan McDonald, Conor Molloy (left), Jordan Cronin and Dean Slattery making particularly influential contributions during the game.

On Sunday afternoon our women's team lined out at home to Cashel in their third game of the Munster Women's League Division 1. Going into the game with a win at home to Bandon and a loss away to Thurles, the team was anxious to tilt the balance and get back to winning form. On the day Clonmel tries from Danni Delahunty and

""

Kate O'Loughlin and a penalty from Lisa Tobin accounted for the home side's 13 points and despite significant Cashel efforts throughout the 80 minutes the Clonmel defence held firm and kept a clean slate.

This was a great performance by the Clonmel ladies and helps keep their league aspirations very much alive. Two more games before Christmas, away to Bandon and Cobh respectively will tell a lot

Next Sunday, the firsts return to Munster Junior League action hosting Skibbereen at home with a 2.30pm.

With five wins from five and trailing league leaders Newcastle West by just one point, Sunday's game is another crucial one for the home side as we approach the Christmas break and the half-way point in the league season. Your support as always would be much appreciated, not to mention the fact that there is some fantastic rugby on show!

Juvenile & Mini Table Quiz
Nenagh Ormond Age Grade Section will host a Table Quiz in the clubhouse in Lisatunny on Friday week, December 5th. We hope that our players, coaches, parents, members and supporters will support our young players by entering a table on the night.

Music, food and spot prizes on the night. €40 per table of four. Kick off at 9pm!

U-16s
Nenagh Ormond were in the enviable position of being able to field 39 players at U-16 level and managed to play two matches simultaneously on Sunday away to both Thurles and to Ballinasloe.

Our second team travelled to Thurles with an experimental squad of 21 players. Most of the squad were either Under 15 or were making their first start ever in a full rugby match. Despite this the team acquitted themselves very well and many of them caught the eye, giving the coaches plenty of selection headaches ahead of next weekend's East Munster Quarter final at home to Fethard.

The match was played in three twenty minute sections and a much slicker and well organised Thurles outfit scored some early scores to push ahead. The Nenagh lads came more and more into their own and finally got the score their efforts deserved when Ronan Kelly cut through the centre from a great backline move to score a well-deserved try. Ben Duff added the conversion.

Despite the final score being 29-7 in favour of Thurles, the Nenagh lads can be proud of their efforts and many will be pushing hard for inclusion in the first team squad as the season progresses

The squad that travelled to Thurles was Seamus O'Meara, Eoin England, Aaron White, Tommy Murphy, Sam West, Diarmuid Boyle, Orrin Moore, Jack Dunne, Nathan O'Meara, Ben Duff, Ronan Kelly, Eamon Hough, Colum Moylan, Luke Mooney, Eddie O'Dwyer, Ray O'Meara, James O'Sullivan, Peter Folan, Patrick Ryan, John O'Meara and Mark O'Neill

Meanwhile our first team travelled to Ballinasloe and beat a highly fancied Ballinasloe team by 40 points to 31 in a very entertaining game.

Nenagh started briskly and had scored two converted tries within the first five minutes. Firstly Tommy Wells took the ball from the end of the maul and found space between the Ballinasloe defence to score. Nenagh scored immediately when a great return from the kick-off led to Luke Fahey being at the end of a fantastic backs move to touch down under the posts. Fiachra Carey converted both tries to put Nenagh 14 points up.

Nenagh allowed Balinasloe back into the game slightly and they replied with two unconverted tries of their own to draw within four points. However, just before the whistle, Nenagh scored the try of the match when a great cross-field kick from out-half Daniel Molamphy was superbly gathered by Fiachra Carey for him to score a superb try which he converted himself.

After the break this highly entertaining game swung from end to end with both teams scoring three tries each. Shortly after the restart Tommy Wells took a quick penalty from outside the opposition 22 and managed to beat several defenders before just about reaching the line to touch down in the corner.

Two more tries from Ballinasloe brought them back into the game. Nenagh again responded well with two more tries from the impressive Fiachra Carey; the first after a great backline move and the second when he was on hand to receive an offload from Tommy Wells after the latter was stopped short following another quickly taken penalty.

A late try for Ballinasloe was not enough to catch Nenagh who ran out nine point winners, with the impressive Fiachra Carey scoring 25 of Nenagh's 40 points.

The squad that travelled to Ballinasloe was Michael Kennedy, Tommy Wells, David Ryan, Michael Bourke, Cathal Ryan, Peter Ryan, Stephen Harding, Sam Krupa, Evan Murphy, Jake O'Kelly, Martin Rainsfort, Daniel Mollamphy, Shane Mitchell-Steed, Cianan O'hAnlúain, Luke Fahey, Fiachra Carey, Darragh Flannery, Conor O'Brien

Training continues Tuesdays and Fridays, with the expectation being if the great numbers continue at training, two full squads will progress throughout the season, ensuring as many players as possible get match time during the season

U-14s Kilfeacle 7-7 Nenagh
On Sunday Nenagh made the journey to Kilfeacle and their hard fought draw secured them the top position in their league. Nenagh got off to a strong start and put a lot of early pressure on Kilfeacle however the Nenagh Forwards were not having it all their own way and were finding it hard to win good ruck ball from a very well drilled Kilfeacle pack.

It wasn't until fifteen minutes into the match that Nenagh managed to break down the Kilfeacle defence when the forward carried the ball into the Kilfeacle Twenty Two they then released their Backs and Peter Rainsford put in a lovely kick to the corner and from the ensuing line out and driving maul Dylan Murphy dived over for a well deserved opening try.

Oisin Larkin converted to give Nenagh a 7 nil lead. The Nenagh score seemed to spur Kilfeacle into life and the Nenagh players had to put in some great tackling to keep Kilfeacle at bay. The nenagh Captain on the day, Oisin Webb, from his position in the second row was to the forefront of the tackling during this period. The Nenagh pack then started to come to terms with Kilfeacle and drove up the field and after a number of good pick and go movements prop Luke Connolly dived over the Kilfeacle line for what looked like a great try but the Referee adjudged it a double movement. At half time Nenagh had a slender lead of 7 nil.

The second half started with the Kilfeacle Forwards winning a lot more ruck ball and then using their big Centres to try and crash through the Nenagh line. On one of these occasions Nenagh Centre, Jack Moran, bravely took down his counterpart but it was Nenagh Full-back, Oisin Larkin, who put in a number of incredible try saving tackles in the second half to keep Kilfeacle out.

Midway through the second half the Nenagh Forwards started to get back on terms with the Kilfeacle pack and after a number of line outs in the Kilfeacle Twenty Two, the Nenagh Forwards drove Oisin Webb over the line but he was unable to ground the ball. Shortly after that Oisin Larkin narrowly missed a penalty which would have given Nenagh a Ten nil lead. The last ten minutes of the game were played in the Nenagh half and in virtually the last move of the game Kilfeacle managed to cross the Nenagh line and try was converted to bring the final score to 7 all.

This victory game Nenagh the top position in their league and they have now qualified for a home quarter final against Dungarvan next Sunday, 30th November 2014. We would like to thank the large amount of parents who drove to Kilfeacle to support the players and we would again encourage all parents to come out next Sunday to shout on the team in the knockout stages of the competition.

Nenagh Squad:
Danny O'Connor, Eoghan Slevin, Luke Connolly, Ruan O'Hanluain, Oisin Webb, Dylan Murphy, Kian O'Kelly, Jack O'Keeffe, James Ferris, Owen Farrell, Peter Rainsford, Jack Moran, Matthew Hodgins, Conor McMahon, Oisin Larkin, Dylan Knight, Lorcan Tuohy, Oisin McMahon, Roan Harte-Murphy, Matthew McGee, Kevin Harding, Patrick Finn, Conor Malone, Aaron Reilly, Owen Geraghty.

Mini Blitz
A big thanks to all the parents who brought their kids to Thurles on Sunday morning for a blitz. Nenagh had 102 players togged out on the day. We have three more weeks till we break for Christmas with December 14th our last session. December 7th will see us move to Ballymackey all-weather pitch for our Sunday morning training sessions.

The next date we will need your help for is our Table Quiz on Friday week, December 5th. Each team's coach will be looking for names next week and we hope to have a big crowd there. We are hoping this will be a social night for everyone involved in our club and not just a chore. It's great to see the parents getting to know one another as your children will be growing up together and hopefully friends and school mates for the future.

U-12s
The Under 12's travelled to Thurles on Sunday morning and played Fethard in their first match. This first match was not one of our better performances with the commitment and aggression that this group usually show not evident. We were guilty of standing off them in defence and sometimes waiting for someone else to do the hard work. For the record, Fethard won 3 tries to 1 with Paul Seymour the scorer.

After this game the players were told some hard truths from the coaches and also had a heart to heart among themselves where, in fairness, they identified what need to be done. This was followed by a match among themselves in a small area where a bit of aggression came to the fore.

Next up was a huge Thurles team and now we saw the real Nenagh. Everything that was done wrong in the first game was corrected and we saw a complete performance that everybody can be proud of, both players and parents. The foundation for this started with some huge tackles on big players by Evan Rainsford and James Finn in particular. The work rate of all 22 players who played was now first class and we saw some lovely rugby played by both teams. The rucking and protection for the scrum half were excellent and the ball was moved through the hands to players coming from depth.

In one super move where the ball was kept alive through many phases John Brislane got away into open field and with two players outside him free he choose to go alone only to be tackled. With everyone thinking the chance was gone he managed to offload in the tackle to the trailing Tommy Ryan running a super line to score a superb try. We won this game 5 tries to 3 with Jack Gleeson, Paul Seymour, James Finn and Eoghan Tighe also crossing for tries. Well done to all the players for the effort put in and let's keep the work rate up for the rest of the season.

Under 11's
The Nenagh Under 11's played two exciting matches yesterday in Thurles against Thurles and Fethard. First up was against Fethard, who were short 3 players, so we gave them three players, as an excellent total of 17 again togged out for Nenagh. This was an exciting 3-all draw, the highlights being a hat trick of tries for Joseph Coffey and a try for Fethard by Nenagh player Eoin Carroll.

The second game began immediately against Thurles who ran in a number of tries against a tiring Nenagh defence. As in previous matches some work will need to be done regarding the tackling and organisation both with and without the ball but it is clear that all the players have improved since the start of the season. Charlie Cavanagh had to go off after receiving the kick off after a clash of heads and this seemed to unsettle the Nenagh boys whose concentration levels dropped.

There were some excellent performances on the day from Joseph Coffey, Joe Shanahan, Jamie Coyne, who had the tackle of the day. Another highlight was Jack O'Flaherty making 4 tackles in a row at one stage, bouncing up each time to drive the opposition back. Special mention for Conor Tierney who had his first game and played very well.

Training continues on Sunday at 10am in Lisatunney, please make sure you have gumshields.

Team who travelled, Joseph Gleeson, Joseph Coffey, Charlie Cavanagh, Adam Hassett, Ben Connolly, Conor Tierney, Eoin Ward, Jack O'Flaherty, Jamie Coyne, Joe Shanahan, Joseph Dooley, Luke Conneally, Paddy Griffen, Sean Moylan, Shane Dunne, Shane Stanley.

Under 9's & 10's
Last Sunday 28 Under 9's and Under 10's (above) travelled to Thurles RFC to take part in a blitz along with Fethard RFC. On a beautiful, fresh morning we played the home side and Fethard. We had two very tough matches and as usual there was nothing between the teams at the end. We scored some great tries, rucked well and tackled bravely. Highlight of the day was a great try by Ciara Ryan who ran the length of the park and went over for a sensational try, very similar to one Tommy Bowe the day before!

Our rugby continues to improve with every outing – and all the kids really enjoyed the morning. Every child got lots of game time. It's back to Lisatunny for training next Sunday morning – new members most welcome.

Our thanks as always to the parents who support our club by taking the time to take the kids to the blitzes. Our thanks to Thurles RFC for their hospitality.

Date for diary – our annual table quiz is taking place on Friday 5th December in the clubhouse at 9pm – your support would be much appreciated. Finally, the club sends our best wishes for a speedy recovery to one of our stalwarts – Tadgh Gleeson – hope you fully recover, Tadgh and we look forward to seeing you back in action very soon.

Junior One League: Waterpark 10-16 St Senan's
Waterpark fell to their first home defeat for the season in disappointing fashion last Sunday. While the two sides were evenly matched as their league standings would suggest Senan's had luck on their side. The home side had a very poor first half and did not produce anything like their display against Tralee and only had 3 points on the board at the break. The penalty was kicked by full back John O'Brien from the halfway line. The visitors lead 6-3 at halftime.

The visitors began the second half strongly and soon had 13 point lead with a try from winger Fernando Gallant while outhalf Declan Rowe kicked the conversion and 2 penalties. Waterpark were reduced to 13 men as the referee sin binned 2 players in quick succession. The home side found some form after this and scored a well worked try from replacement prop Adam Walsh, O'Brien landed a difficult conversion to leave the game in the balance. Best of Waterpark was Jack Tully, Niall O'Connor and Josh Finlan.

Under 15 Friendly: Dungarvan 26-15 Waterpark
Waterpark played the Dungarvan under 16s in a friendly last Saturday. The visitors completed well against their older opponents. Full back Niall Bowe crossed for 2 tries and flanker Cormac O'Mahony got the other try.

Under 14 League: Waterpark 38-17 Fethard
In a very messy affair Waterpark came out on top in this fixture and so secure a home quarter final spot. Star for the home side was No 8 Mark O'Hare who cross for a total of 6 tries, Gavin Corbett kicked 4 conversions.

Under 13 Friendly: Clonmel 26-49 Waterpark

It was a long drive back from Ballymena last weekend after our 43-15 defeat to the northern side. A red card early on in the match for us meant that we were really up against it for the rest of the match. With a great and solid first half display it looked like our senior lads could manage to keep the home-side at bay. Alas it was not to be. Ballymena came back onto the pitch in the second half to dominate the rest of the match. Click here for the match report from this game.

Old Crescent RFC News

Courtesy of:- Frank Larkin

Old Crescent RFC sides in action over the weekend were our Under 20's and our Senior Seconds who both took on Garryowen opposition in Rosbrien.

Fielding our strongest panel of the season and coming off a win in our previous Donal Walsh trophy game, our Under 20 side hosted Garryowen in Rosbrien last Saturday afternoon. We started strongly and our forwards quickly established dominance in the set pieces with the lineout in particular operating well. We opened the scoring after just four minutes when we secured ball off the top of the lineout and following crisp passing along our back line, right wing Cian Malone crossed in the corner for an unconverted try.

Continued pressure resulted in a second try with Liam Mc Mahon touching down after a strong maul from the forwards which was converted by Rory Cunningham. We crossed for our third try of the game after 25 minutes with Liam Mc Mahon scoring his second try with Val Mc Dermott converting to give us a 19 point lead. A penalty goal was the only score for the visitors in the first half.

In the second half, a combination of injuries and yellow cards for the both sides resulted in a more uneven game. We did create a couple of chances to score the vital bonus point try but the Garryowen defence held firm. The only score of the second half was another penalty goal for Garryowen to leave the final score 17 points to 6 in our favour.

It was a brave and committed display by all 19 players in the squad with Cian Reale, Liam Mc Mahon and Jack Hogan standing out with their individual performances. With three games remaining in the first round of the Donal Walsh trophy, there are lots of positives to reflect upon and we wish our Under 20's well in their remaining fixtures.

Last Monday, on a lovely crisp evening for rugby, our Senior Seconds took on their Garryowen counterparts under lights in Rosbrien. After an evenly matched first quarter, Crescent went ahead when Nigel Kerr pinched an intercept from the Garryowen backline and ran over half the field to score a try. The convert was missed.

There followed a sustained period of Garryowen pressure with Crescent on the back foot for long periods. This pressure resulted in Garryowen getting in for an unconverted try to level the scores with five minutes left in the first half. Garryowen went ahead with a well taken drop goal as the first half ended.

Garryowen continued to dominate territorially in the second half, and they went further ahead with two tries, one converted, in the third quarter of the game. With the visitors now leading by 20 points to 5, Crescent finally got a foothold in the game in the final quarter, and two tries in quick succession, the first by Dave Egan and the second by Colm Doyle, both converted by Garret Quinn McDonagh, brought us to within one point of our visitors.

With our tails up and the momentum firmly with Old Crescent, our Seconds launched attack after attack at the now rattled Garryowen side in search of the win, but, alas, an overambitious 'Simon Zebo' type move gifted the ball to a Garryowen player who gratefully accepted it and ran in for an easy try which they converted to leave the final score Old Crescent 19 Garryowen 27.

In fixtures next weekend, our First Team travel to Nenagh to take on Nenagh Ormond RFC in the Cyril Fitzgerald Plate at 2.30pm next Saturday, while our Third's continue their Gleeson League campaign with a home fixture in Rosbrien against Kilrush RFC also at 2.30pm next Saturday.."
