Club Notes | Kanturk RFC
8th February 2021 By The Editor
The members of Kanturk Rugby Club were saddened to hear of the untimely passing of Bill O’Keeffe last month.
Bill was an ever-present player in the front row of the first XV from the mid 70’s to the late 80’s, although there was one occasion when Bill ventured outside the front row.
Bill was injured but traveled to the match in Youghal, on the day Kanturk had only 12 players so the injured Bill duly lined out on the wing.
Captaining the club in season’s 79-80 and 80-81, Bill completed a playing career in which he was noted as a hard but fair competitor.
On finishing his playing career he coached the second XV during which time they won the McCarthy Cup.
Throughout this time he worked tirelessly to develop Kanturk RFC. In latter years Bill was an ardent Club supporter and along with close friends Tommy and Pakie, was a familiar face at many games.
Bill will be a big loss to Kanturk Rugby Club but will never be forgotten.
The club’s sincere condolences are extended to Rinnie and the O’Keeffe family.
May he rest in peace.
