Our latest edition of Club Notes comes from Mallow RFC.

By Kenneth Mills.

Last month, more than 170 fifth and sixth class girls from five local schools (Convent Primary School, Mallow, Scoil Ghobnatan, Scoil Aonghusa CNS, Gaelscoil Thomais Daibhis and Baltydaniel National School) participated in a tag rugby blitz. Sixteen teams were in action and each team got to play five matches over the course of the blitz.

The blitz was organized by Mallow RFC, with the support of Munster Rugby and Club Community Rugby Officer Kenneth Mills. Transition year students from St. Mary’s Secondary girl’s school (that recently completed their Munster Rugby coaching course), refereed all the games, and also helped coach the teams during the blitz.

St. Mary’s and the Academy pitches were used for the blitz and a huge thank you to all the schools, Munster Rugby and Mallow Rugby club for supporting the blitz. For information on the school’s programme, contact Freddie at 087-9805951.

In October, Mallow RFC also organized a blitz for more than 80 sixth class boys from four primary schools (St. Patricks Boys National School, Scoil Ghobnatan, Scoil Aonghusa CNS, and Gaelscoil Thomais Daibhis). Eight teams from the schools were in action and each team got to play five matches over the course of the blitz.

The blitz was organized by the club, with the support of Munster Rugby and Club Community Rugby Officer Kenneth Mills. Transition year students from St. Mary’s Secondary girl’s school (that recently completed a Munster Rugby coaching course), refereed all the games, and also helped coach the teams during the blitz. The pitch for the blitz was provided by the Patrician Academy. A huge thank you to all the schools for supporting the blitz.
