Club Notes | Newport RFC Host Primary School Blitz

Munster Rugby players Cian Hurley and Jack Daly attending the Newport RFC blitz last week.

Last week, Newport RFC held a national school blitz for local schools in the area which saw 150 children take part on the day.

The schools which took part included Lackamore National School, Castleconnell National School, Newport Boys National School and Birdhill National School.

The schools played 10-a-side touch rugby with rolling substitutions.

Newport Boys National School won out on the day with Birdhill National School coming in second. Student from Newport College refereed the games.

Mark O’Leary, Joss Hanrahan, Ciara Browne and Henry O’Neil of Newport RFC helped out on the day with staff from Newport College, Donal Madden, Noel Kinane, Fergal McNamara and Jane Keating, also assisting.

Munster Rugby players Jack Daly and Cian Hurley were also present and they took part in a Q&A session with the players while also posing for group photographs.

These blitzes help link the local primary schools with Newport RFC and Newport College by highlighting to parents the rugby pathway that exists for children to play rugby in Newport.
