UL Bohemian RFC are delighted to announce that former Irish International, Munster and UL Bohemian player Niamh Briggs has been appointed to the position of Head Coach to the Senior Women’s Team for 2021/2022.
“Briggsy” has a record that speaks for itself. Having joined UL Bohemian RFC in 2009, she quickly became a key player. Niamh made history in 2013 when she was part of the Grand Slam-winning Irish team for the Six Nations, before then going on to captain the team to Six Nations success again in 2015. Niamh brings a wealth of experience on the field as a player, and in more recent years in a coaching capacity with UL Bohemian RFC and Munster Rugby. We are excited that Niamh has taken the role for this coming season and is a huge boost to our club.
Cathal Sheridan, UL Bohemian RFC Director of Rugby, said:
“We’re thrilled that Niamh has accepted our offer to become Head Coach. Niamh is a household name in Irish sport, she has one of the best rugby brains around, and we are very fortunate to have her overseeing the next generation of players through the club. Obviously, her experience on and off the pitch at the pinnacle of Irish Rugby over the last decade speaks for itself, but the most exciting part for us is her vision on where she wants to bring us to in the next few years. Niamh’s appointment comes at a crucial time where there are huge opportunities for the development of the elite player pathways in Munster and Ireland. All the best Briggsy.”
Fiona Hayes Departs
We would like to wish Fiona Hayes all the best as she moves on from her role as UL Bohemian RFC Women’s Head Coach.
Fiona joined UL Bohemian as a player over 15 years ago and has been a key member of the club both as a player and as a coach when she took up the role in 2019/2020 season.
UL Bohemian Director of Rugby Cathal Sheridan said:
“On behalf of the club, I would like to sincerely thank Fiona for all her effort during her time at Bohs. She is a representation of everything good about the game of rugby. The respect she has of her teammates, her fellow coaches, and the wider rugby community across the country is a testament to that. The work Fiona has put in to develop the women’s game on and off the field is inspirational, and we have no doubt she will continue to make an impact in her next venture.”
