Killarney is a small but very successful club in West Munster. Last season was without a doubt the most successful season in our history. Our Senior team won a very hard fought promotion to Division 2 of the Munster Junior League, finishing 3rd in the league we managed to win the play offs to gain promotion, a feat that looked unlikely at the start of the season. The lads went on to win the Martin O’Sullivan Cup and the Galwey/Foley Cup in thrilling matches.
Our U14’s managed to win all their matches bar one, right across the season, winning the West Munster League and Cup double. This was as down to the hard work and committment of the players, coaches and of course th parents. Our U16 had a good season and lost the final of the KCL Shield. We also fielded an U18 team which fulfilled all of their fixtures across the seasons. Granted there weren’t too many wins but we are building for the future and going in the right direction. Previously, we had to amalgamate with the likes of Castleisland or Killorglin to field an U18 squad!
We have 100 children coming to Mini rugby trainin each Saturday when Mini Rugby is up and running. This year we started girls rugby at the minis with a view to having a proper ladies section in the future. We have 12 girls playing rugby this year, which is huge and will have the Women’s World Cup Trophy with us on June 12.
This has been a fantastic season for our club, in East Kerry where Football is the main sport. We have new grounds at Aghadoe which consists of a juvenile pitch, a training pitch and a playing pitch and this is our second ever full season at Aghadoe!
We are developing club, even though we are in existence since 1928, with a break until the 1950’s.
