Location: Supervalu Listowel

On a Bright morining in Listowel the Girls Rugby faced off against the Boys Rugby of Listowel RFC.

This was battle that both teams were up for the challenge..Who would go the furthest in 4hr

We set up outside Supervalu Listowel many thanks to Neilus supervalu manager and for the Listowel Community Centre for providing the equipment for the day.

The Girls took an early lead against the boys as the girls organised themselves with Mary Kate Reidy had a stopwatch for each cyclist to changeover and do their bit for their team.

But when the boys woke up and started to increase the pedal rate they started to claw back on the girls…there was great excitement from the on looking public and the parents that came to support both teams..On the day we took the opportunity to get the message out of the new rugby season with the start of the minis training down this Saturday 3rd Sep in Town Park Listowel.. Also it will be a "Give IT A Try Day" for girls who have never played the sport of which there will be fun and games (no contact) all you need to bring is pair boots/trainer..further details on Listowel Rugby Facebook page.

After 4hrs of high octane competition between the girls and boys it came down to only 1km and winners for this year challenge the boys just edge out the girls who put in a valiant display.. Well done to all involved from the committee of the rugby club, parents and the players.

Remember Rugby season is up and running from this Saturday Checkout us out on facebook for details !!

Transfield Cup

We were scheduled to meet Garryowen on Monday evening last in the 1st round of the Transfield Cup. The home side cancelled the game late on Monday evening. Further news as we get it.

Training

Training continues every Tuesday and Friday night in Killeline @ 7pm

Under 18s

NCW/Estuary RFC – 38 Tralee RFC – 14

Last Sunday our Killeline grounds were a cornucopia of verdant splendour as we welcomed the Tralee RFC Under 18 squad for a pre-season friendly.

NCW/E started strong with our forwards taking on the ball well until scrum half Charlie O'Doherty made a break to score the opening try which we converted. Tralee upped their game but fine tackling by Adam Flanagan and Micheál Murphy plus an excellent turnover by Ryan White held them out. Eventually the Tralee pressure paid off when a clearance kick was blocked down and they went in for a converted try. The Newcastle west/Estuary reply was immediate when the ball went through the hands of Michael Bourke, Liam Tierney, John Forde and Com O'Connor who amazingly passed to Cillian Ferris who cut in for a fine converted try under the posts.
Ten minutes later Tralee availed of some sloppy tackling by us to run through for a converted try of their own. NCW/E were next to score when a pre-planned move released the speedy Stephen Lyons. John McCoy was on hand to help and Jack Kelly finished the move by touching down for a try in the corner. The final period of the game was dominated by the home team and a loop move inside our 22 released Liam Tierney to score a fine try which was converted by Michael Bourke. Adam Flanagan and Stephen Lyons each added a try on the closing minutes.

There were many other performances of note which the coaching management were taking into account. This result was due to team effort but there is a need for training to get the most out of our squad. Wednesday 31st August at 7:30pm in Killeline is a vital session as there is a league match on Sunday 4th September vs Nenagh.
Thanks to all who came to support the lads
