This week’s club notes come from UCC and Young Munster.

UCC Club Notes

UCC RFC is delighted to host CBC v PBC seniors in the Mardyke, taking place at the redeveloped pavilion and upgraded stand this Friday 16th December in aid of COPE. The game will kick off at 6.30pm with students from each school collecting in aid of COPE. There is no entry fee but spectators are asked to give generously towards this worthy local charity.

The Mardyke is celebrating 100 years of UCC ownership this year and this game between two local traditional feeder schools is one of many profiled sporting events taking place at the Mardyke in 2011-2012.

The COPE choir will entertain. New pavilion bar will be open and there will be no parking in the Mardyke for this game.

The Limerick Charity Cup Final takes place this Friday December 16th in Dooradoyle. Ulster Bank League table-toppers Young Munster will play seventh place Shannon in what is bound to be an exciting, hard-fought local derby.

Young Munster have won the Charity Cup final for the last two years. The ‘black and amber’ beat UL Bohemians in 2009 with an Alan Kingsley penalty in the dying minutes to win 11-10; and in 2010 it was an injury time penalty from the boot of Willie Staunton that sealed Shannon’s fate as they lost 12-9. This year’s final is a replay of last year and no doubt Shannon will be keen to turn the tables on last year’s result. Young Munster are aiming for three titles in a row and are the form side in the league but in a local cup match, anything can happen. A tight match awaits spectators no doubt. Kick-off time is 7.15pm.

Following the match, the Young Munster Christmas Party will take place in the Clubhouse at Tom Clifford Park with live music, raffle and more. Open invitation to players, friends and supporters. No cover charge. All are invited.

A limited shuttle bus will be in operation from Dooradoyle to Tom Clifford Park after the game for those who wish to leave the car at home and join us in a festive night to toast the club’s success in 2011.

Santa visits Young Munster RFC

HO-HO HO, yes it’s that time of the year again! Santa will be in Limerick for the Munster match early on Sunday the 18th and he will be in the Young Munster Clubhouse later that evening from 4.30pm to 6.00pm.

Don’t miss theSanta Party at Young Munster RFC Clubhouse on Sunday December 18th from 4.30pm to 6pm. Meet Santa and enjoy a Magic Show! All kids are welcome to attend. Entry is €;5 per child.

Please note that there will not be underage training that morning and all training will recommence on Sunday 8th of January.

Young Munster Women’s Calendar

The Women’s team fundraising calendar is already proving a very popular Christmas gift. The calendar is made up of a selection of photos shot by photographer Owen South with the girls on location at Young Munster RFC, Tom Clifford Park, Greenfields, plus other contributions.

The calendar also features underage players, and senior players from the men's teams including a great action photo of Paul O'Connell in the club's black and amber strip, shot by photographer Eoin McCarthy in O'Connell's return game for Young Munster last year.

Sympathies

Young Munster RFC would like to to extend its deepest regrets to the Meehan family on the death of Andy. He was a staunch player and supporter of our club for over six decades. He came from a family that was steeped in club tradition with brothers John and Stephen also involved. Andy played in 1940s to 1950s with Willie Allen and Joe Plunkett to name but a few.

Regrets also to Jim McNamara on the death of his father Gerard. Jim was Captain of Young Munster in 1987, he also won a Munster senior medal in 1980.

Waterpark RFC Club Notes

Waterpark claimed the East Munster Under 17 league title last Sunday against neighbours Dungarvan.

The home side got off to a good start with a successful penalty from Gareth Molloy. Both packs worked hard for possession with the Dungravan backline running a lot of ball with the wind at their backs.

A good defensive display in the first half gave Waterpark a slight advantage at half time.

The second half was dominated by Waterpark forwards with the backs also upping their work rate. A number of pick and drives lead to a great break by prop Dylan Power which lead to Brian Kenny scoring the games first try under the posts, Gareth Molloy kicked the convertion.

Waterpark continued to attack the Dungravan line with a good backline move ending with Daniel O'Driscoll scoring, again Molloy added the extras.
