Coach Development Update

The Munster Rugby Development Department have hosted a number of Coaching Courses and Concussion Courses recently with plenty more being held in the coming weeks.

The next Concussion Workshop takes place at Old Crescent RFC tomorrow night (Wednesday) at 7.30pm with places still available (Book your place now by emailing janeburns@munsterrugby.ie).

The most recent workshop took place in CBC with over 100 coaches and parents in attendance (pictured below). Tralee IT will also host a Concussion Awareness Workshop next month (Wednesday, October 12, 7.30pm).

""

The workshops are presented by IRFU First Aid and Injury Prevention Coordinator Shane Mooney and are designed to educate coaches, parents, players and referees on the dangers of concussion and how to recognise it.

All club and school coaches are encouraged to attend the workshops which are free of charge. Click here to view the IRFU's guide to Concussion in Rugby Union.

The next Stage 1 (Mini) Coaching Course takes place in Limerick IT this Friday and Saturday (September 23 and 24) with the course fully booked.

A Stage 2 (Foundation) Coaching Course will be held at the MRSC Bar in Thomond Park on Friday, October 7, and Saturday, October 8, with just 10 places remaining. (Book your place now by emailing janeburns@munsterrugby.ie).

A Stage 1 (Mini) Coaching Course will also take place in Clonmel next month – Friday, October 14, and Saturday, October 15. (Book your place by emailing janeburns@munsterrugby.ie).

The Stage 1 Course is designed for coaches of Mini rugby (6yrs-12yrs) where players are being introduced to rugby for the first time and participating in games of reduced numbers (8's, 10's and 12-a-side).

The focus is on safety and enjoyment with the coach acting as 'guide' in a player-centred process. Developing players' all-round skills and game-understanding with an emphasis on Physical Literacy appropriate to the stages of development of each individual are the key technical, tactical & physical module objectives.

The course develops the coach as 'Guide'.

The Stage 2 (Foundation) Course is an introduction to the 15-a-side game for coaches and helpers with limited experience in rugby.

Safety and enjoyment are in the main themes of the course, and therefore the course is suited for people working with pre-teenage and adolescent players.

The course develops the coach as 'Teacher'.
