Coaches Attend Scrum Clinic With All Blacks Coach
29th September 2010 By Munster Rugby
The Munster Rugby Domestic Game Department coordinated a Scrum Clinic hosted by New Zealand Scrum Coach Mike Cron last Sunday in Cork Institute of Technology with over forty coaches from around the province in attendance.
Cron*, who was over for the week working with his Munster counterpart Paul McCarthy and the Munster Rugby Academy, used some of his time to impart his knowledge on the Club Coaches from around the province.
His expertise and knowledge was hugely appreciated by domestic game staff, coaches and players alike.
The Scrum Clinic was split into 2 sessions. The first session included nine players aged between 15 and 18 years who are currently involved with the South Munster Regional Development Squad and Munster U18 Squad.
Cron identified each of their individual srummaging techniques and body position, and through a series of trouble shooting tasks offered them expert knowledge and advice.
The second session was more practical based and students from Presentation College Cork and Christian Brothers College Cork offered their services to illustrate the practical elements to the coaches in attendance.
Both packs were shown individual techniques initially and then how to develop the scrum as a unit. Each Functional role was identified and illustrated for the coaches to see. Munster Rugby Scrum Coach Paul McCarthy was also in attendance and offered his professional advice to both players and coaches.
The Scrum Clinic was coordinated by Domestic Game Manager Ultan O Callaghan, Coach Development Officer Keith Murphy and the Domestic Game Dept. Thank you to all who attended.
Further workshops and clinics will follow, details of which will be posted on the Munster Rugby website and sent to clubs and schools.
