Coaches Develop Key Cornerstones At Irish Independent Park
29th January 2019 By The Editor
The Munster Rugby Development Department recently held a ‘Coaching the Cornerstones’ regional workshop at Irish Independent Park with 30 coaches in attendance.
The workshop focused on the four Cornerstones of the game (catch and pass, decision-making, continuity, and tackle technique/defence) with a demonstration of games and reduced activities from Munster Rugby staff and the Munster U17 Development squad.
An indoor presentation introduced the updated Rugby Development Programme with each participant receiving a workbook which includes 15 rugby sessions with coaching points supplemented by video examples of games and drills.
The workshop was delivered by Munster Rugby Coach & Player Development Officers, Owen Mullowney, Ken O’Connell and Brendan O’Connor as part of a series of workshops focused on the updated programme.
The programme highlights the key Cornerstones and aligns practical coaching workshops with additional resources for coaches.
A second workshop will run on Monday 4 February at Irish Independent Park and is scheduled to cover the continuity/rugby and tackle technique/defence cornerstones.
