It has been a busy month throughout the province with the Munster Rugby Coaching Course programme well underway.

Four Coaching Children courses have taken place in UL, Musgrave Park, Dungarvan RFC and Killarney RFC.

Such has been the demand for these coaching courses in the province that two additional Coaching Children courses have been added for November and December in Skibbereen RFC and Muskerry RFC. Click here for more information.

Two Coaching Youth Courses have taken place in UL and Musgrave Park this month with one taking place in Clonmel RFC this weekend.

The online elements of the Coaching Senior Course have already taken place with the in-person element of the course getting underway this Sunday in Musgrave Park. Guest online presenters this season included Munster Rugby forwards coach Andi Kyriacou, Academy Manager Ian Costello, UCC and former Ireland U20 coach Conor Twomey, Academy and NTS Strength and Conditioning Coach Cathal Murtagh and Elite Player Development Officer Brendan O’Connor.

These coaching courses are aimed to support coaches and their development, by increasing and enhancing their knowledge of the game.

The modules covered on the courses range from the role of the coach and planning rugby sessions to technical understanding of scrum, lineout, tackle etc.

This season the IRFU Active Coach Badge (ACB) program has been launched and commenting on its induction, Coach and Player Development Manager Keith Murphy said:

“Coach development has seen some significant and exciting changes over the past few years. The introduction of Gainline, our online learning management system, has been a game changer for coaches to enhance their knowledge of the game in a virtual learning space.

“The ACB program has now added another dimension, as coaches who complete their respective awards can now continue their personal learning journey through our CPD program. This is done through a blend of online and face-to-face offerings. By achieving the minimum bronze badge award annually, coaches achieve their active coaching qualification.”
