Coaching Courses Roundup

There has been a number of coaching courses taking place across the province this past month at a number of different levels.

On Saturday October 5th our annual Senior Coaching Course took place. The weather didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits as 30 coaches gathered in the sports hall of Cork College of FET.

The course included modules in general attack and defence, scrum, lineout, back plays and kick offs just to name a few. There were a number of Munster coaches on hand to guide attendees throughout the day, including former Leinster and Ireland international Sean Cronin and former Munster and Ireland player Ian Keatley who both are now involved in coaching within Munster’s age-grade set-ups.

See below for a number of photos from the day.

The following weekend we held our Youth Coaching Courses in both Limerick and Cork.

The Cork course took place in Virgin Media Park and had 48 coaches in attendance.

Throughout the day the coaches learnt how to plan sessions and teach the four cornerstones of rugby through games and movement.

While at the course we caught up with Dan Lyne one of our Rugby Development Officers who was on hand on the day to provide his expertise on how to become an organised and prolific coach.

Hear from Dan and some of the other course partcipants below.

The Limerick based course was held in University Of Limerick’s North Pavilion.

Here our west Munster based Coach and Player Pathway Officers put the participants through their paces in the Limerick sunshine.

As well as our day long coaching course we are also hosting a number of active coaching badge sessions over the coming months. These sessions are free to attend and all dates can be found here.

The IRFU Active Coach Badge’ courses are intended to provide coaches who have achieved the IRFU Children Coach, Youth Coach or Senior Coach Award(s), with ongoing continuing professional development (‘CPD’), i.e. information and opportunities to ensure that learning and development of your coaching skills continue throughout the season.
