14th November 2014 By Munster Rugby
The Munster Rugby Coach Development Department recently held Stage 1 and Stage 2 Coaching Workshops in Cashel RFC.
Munster Community Rugby Officers Andy Brace and Euan Gee co-ordinated the courses for 17 coaches of the club with 15 players from the Cashel U-14s participating.
The Stage 1 Workshop for coaches of the minis showed a wide range of sample fun games with the main focus of the session on evasion and continuity through general movement. An introduction showing the concept and importance of physical literacy in the planning of each session was also included.
The workshop highlighted the benefits of coaching in the collective with an emphasis on reduced skill development through fun activities. Coaches were also shown different activities to develop individual skills including the development of agility, balance, co-ordination and speed in a fun environment.
The Stage 2 Workshop focused on continuity and continuity in contact before, during and after the tackle. Footwork evasion, leg-drive and presentation were some of the skills that were developed throughout the session.
Munster Rugby would like to thank Cashel RFC for facilitating the workshop with a special mention to Martin Ferncombe for his help.
