Cobh Pirates win Munster Junior 2 Cup Final
9th May 2010 By Munster Rugby
The final game of the season for the Tony O’Flynn Memorial Cup was played at Annacotty with victory going to Cobh Pirates who defeated Richmond 18-13.
A minute silence was observed before the game in memory of the former Richmond and Garryowen player Derek Murphy who died during the week in the U.S.A.
Both these sides went into this game champions of their respective leagues and Cobh were looking for their second trophy in five days, having clinched the Kelly Cup in mid week with a 19-3 win over Old Christians.
Cobh looked the hungrier side where as Richmond had been idle for two weeks and the Pirates were full value for their 10-3 half time lead thanks to a try from Eoin Ryan and a conversion and penalty by Conor O’Regan to a penalty by Wesley Fitzgerald.
The Pirates extended their advantage with a penalty from O’Regan and a try by Alan Langford.
Richmond rallied in the final quarter but a try from Stephen Clancy and a conversion and penalty by Fitzgerald was not enough to prevent the Cup from travelling South.
