Coláiste íde Agus Iosef Win The Double

Abbeyfeale’s Coláiste íde agus Iosef won a huge double in girls rugby recently when their junior and senior teams triumphed in the Munster girls 10 a-side competition.

Coach John Moloney spoke of how the winning campaign began back in October with over 40 girls signing up and wanting to play and represent their school: ”Numbers were so big that the school was able to field two teams at junior level. It was fantastic to see so many girls interested in playing rugby. With a mixture of girls being new to the game, they proved to be eager to learn and others helping with their experience of the game,” he added.""The Coláiste Íde agus Iosef junior girls team

He continued: “At senior level there was a struggle with numbers but not with determination as they won all their early games to put them on top of their table.”

On November 26th, the girls continued their journey taking them this time to CIT. The 'A' team captained by Diane O' Connor continued their winning streak, while the 'B' team captained by Shauna O' Shea won 2 of their 3 games on the day.

Then in the final round of matches in December played in Coonagh Limerick, both Junior teams won all their games resulting in them having to play each other in the final with the schools 'B' team coming out with a narrow win.

Meanwhile on the same day, the senior team were also unstoppable, winning their final and making it their third title in a row.

Celebrating this fantastic double, John Moloney reflected that: “Throughout this experience the girls have grown in spirit, determination, confidence and the talent was beyond belief. They showed how they could hold to any challenge given to them.

"The school have really done a fantastic job in getting the girls to this level. The teachers' consideration for the girls along with the strong support within the school, supplying the gear and buses for them, has helped the girls to grow as individuals and as a team who have proudly represented themselves and their school. Congrats to all involved, the girls, the schools, teachers, coaches and their parents," Moloney added.
