College Rugby At CIT
19th January 2011 By Munster Rugby
With the recent growth of Irish Colleges Rugby, Munster Rugby in conjunction with the Cork Institution of Technology (CIT) are working together to improve the development and promotion of the game.
Former Connacht, Irish U21 International and current Cashel number 8 Brendan O’Connor has recently been appointed to the role of ‘CIT Rugby Officer’ with the aim of increasing rugby participation at all levels within the college.
This includes coordinating rugby activities and organising regular rugby competitions for male and female students at all levels of rugby.
CIT currently have three competing teams; Freshers, Mens and Womens who all participate in the Munster College Leagues.
The introduction of Tag Rugby at the College has been very successful and students are currently preparing for a six week in-house tag tournament which will commence in February. Participants will go on to play in a Munster colleges tag competition which is scheduled to take place in April next.
With a view to promoting health and fitness in the workplace tag rugby is currently being run at lunchtimes for all college staff. This initiative is aimed at developing a work life balance through this introductory form of rugby for newcomers to the game.
