Committee Volunteers Needed

Munster Rugby would like to invite volunteers to apply for the role of ‘Age Grade To Adult Working Sub Committee’ (AGTA) – details below. If you are interested in the role please submit your application to Mike Keane by emailing mjkeanetralee@gmail.com no later than Friday, 13th May 2016.

Purpose :

To oversee the transition of young players from the Age Grade Playing Systems (Schools/Youths) to the Adult Club Game. The commitment of the player to the game and their playing history to date with their chosen school or club will be recognised and they will be supported to ensure they successfully continue their involvement in the game at whatever level they wish, whether as a player, coach, referee or administrator. Player participation is key.

Objective :

The objective of this working sub committee is to ensure that players are able to seamlessly make the step from the Age Grades to the Adult game. This is an all encompassing objective to ensure that as many players as possible are successfully integrated to a club, irrespective of their ability. This Group will oversee the management and playing of competitions primarily at Under 20 level. The competitions may vary between 15/11/7 a sides. The Group will work with existing s/c that currently manage local Under 20 Leagues/Cups.

Structure :

This working sub committee will have an Independent Chairman who will report to the Rugby Committee on a regular basis and supply up to date information on Competitions and player status. There will be four Regional Delegates responsible for the programme in the Province – North/South/East/West. This is a reflection of the existing Age Grade playing/competition structures. There will be a Delegate representative from the Colleges s/c also appointed to this s/c.

The Group will be supported by a person from the professional staff who will provide all necessary player details and current player affiliation and numbers for each Region. This person will also work with the chairman to ensure the programme works smoothly and consistently throughout the province. The s/c may appoint a Fixture secretary from within the Group or co opt a suitable person to oversee the fixtures under its control. The remit covers every club, college and school irrespective of their location and current playing status.

Responsibilities :

The Group will be responsible for:-

  • compiling a data base from the existing information that identifies all Age Grade Players
  • tracking those players and ensuring they continue to stay involved in the game
  • putting players in contact with the appropriate person in their club
  • if a player has no club affiliation then assist them find a suitable club
  • if players move for work/study reasons try and integrate them with a new local club
  • work with clubs to ensure contact with players is completed and continuity achieved
  • develop varied participation models e.g. 15/11/7 a side, mixed/tag
  • support clubs in completing their scheduled fixtures
  • work with clubs and professional support staff to ensure all players get games at an appropriate level
  • players will be allocated as evenly as possible with no favour shown to individual clubs where options/choices are available.
