Con Bid For Bateman Cup Title

The final of the Ulster Bank Bateman Cup between Cork Constitution and UCD will be broadcast live on RTE Two www.rte.ie/live (worldwide stream) on Saturday, 3rd May from Temple Hill (kick-off 2.30pm).

Cork Constitution, coached this season by Tom Mulcahy, are bidding to retain the Bateman Cup and keep the trophy in Munster hands.

Gerry Hurley captained Con to the Munster Senior Cup final last December where they overcame Garryowen at Thomond Park and went on to represent their province in the All Ireland play-offs.

Con will be hoping to bring the Bateman Cup back to Munster for the fourth year in a row, following their win over St. Mary's last season and previously claimed by Bruff in 2011 and Garryowen in 2012.

The Bateman Cup was originally played between 1922 and 1939. It was reintroduced in 2011 with the four provincial cup winners meeting in semi-finals.

Prior to the Bateman Cup's reintroduction three years ago, the All-Ireland Cup – then sponsored by AIB – was played between 2006 and 2010.

Cork Con reached three of the five finals, winning two of them – against St. Mary's and Garryowen – and losing one to Ballynahinch in 2009.

There will be no replay in the All Ireland Bateman Cup final and in the event of a full time draw the following regulations will apply:-

If clubs are tied at full time, extra time of 10 minutes each way shall be played.
If still tied, the club which has scored most tries shall be the winner.
If still tied, the team who scored the 1st try shall be the winner
If no tries have been scored, the team that scored the first points in the final shall be declared the winner
If the final is scoreless, penalty kicks shall be taken to decide the winner
Clubs may tog out up to 7 (seven) additional players and they will act as rolling substitutes.
