Cork Con Set Out To Retain Bateman Cup

Cork Constitution booked a spot in the Ulster Bank League Division 1A final with a hard fought win over Young Munster last Saturday at Temple Hill.

Their senior side have another chance of silverware this weekend as they take on Galwegians in the Bateman Cup Final.

Con have won the All Ireland Cup for the past three years (2015, 2014 and 2013) but will face a determined Wegians side that were relegated from the top flight on points difference on the last day of the regular season.

The trophy has come to Munster on 7 occasions – Young Munster in 1928, University College Cork eight years later, Bruff in 2011, Garryowen in 2012 and Cork Constitution in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Reigning champions, Cork Constitution, will defend their title as they bid for a fourth successive win in the national cup competition.

Should they succeed in doing so, they will put themselves in a position to equal the record number of wins as Lansdowne, who won the first Bateman Cup title in 1922 and completed a hat-trick of wins in the 1929/31 era.

As well as competing for the Bateman Cup and All Ireland League Division 1 titles, the Temple Hill Junior side will face Young Munster this week-end in the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup Final at Thomond Park Stadium.

Adding to their remarkable season, Cork Constitution have reached their fourth consecutive Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Cup final and will meet the winners of Old Crescent and Young Munster in the other semi final this weekend. The final is set for Thomond Park Stadium on Saturday, 14th May.
