Cork Con & Young Munster To Meet In Munster Junior Cup Final

Young Munster and Cork Constitution go head to head in the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup decider this Sunday at Irish Independent Park (kick-off 2.30pm).

The Temple Hill side have qualified on the back of a difficult campaign as they came from behind to force extra time in their last two games against Richmond and Galbally.

Con’ began their campaign with a 36-8 victory over Mallow at Mahon with tries from Sean Grey, Joe White, Sonny Dwyer and Greg Roche. Jamie Murphy kicked a penalty and conversion while Eoin Lacey kicked a conversion and an impressive hat-trick of penalties.

The Temple Hill side recorded a comprehensive 54-8 home win over UL Bohemian with Paddy Hegarty, Lee O’Leary, Michael Clune and Cathal O’Flaherty among the try scorers.

Con’ then recorded a 27-7 victory over Old Christians at Rathcooney to set up a quarter final meeting with Galbally at the County Limerick venue.

John Poland kicked a penalty for Con’ and Dave Fitzgerald scored a try to level the scores at eight points apiece to force extra time. A penalty by Poland with the last kick of the game settled the tie to set up a semi-final meeting with Richmond at Temple Hill.

Con’ were 24-17 down when Jason Higgins rescued the game with a try, converted by Poland, which sent the tie into extra time. Poland kicked two penalties to book the Temple Hill side’s place in the decider.

Young Munster opened their account in Round 2 with a comprehensive home win over Killarney. They followed this up with a 23-17 away win over Thurles to set up a home meeting with Kilfeacle in the quarter finals.

Peter Meyer and Mike Madden scored tries in a 21-13 victory over the Tipperary side and Paul Downes kicked three penalties and a conversion.

Young Munster defeated Bandon in the semi-final at Tom Clifford Park to win on a 19-7 scoreline with a try by Dermot Gallagher and a conversion and four penalties by Downes.

Young Munster will be looking for their eight title with their last success back in 1999.

Cork Constitution last won the trophy in 2012 and will be hoping to bring the trophy to Temple Hill for the nineteenth time.
