Crescent End Rockwell’s Three In A Row

After their dramatic semi final win last week over CBC, Crescent College Comprehensive won the Munster Schools Senior Cup with a deserved victory over holders Rockwell at Thomond Park.

Crescent College Comprehensive 27, Rockwell College 5.
A tenth title for Crescent College Comp after a nineteen year wait since their last title back in 1994.

Again it was the boot of skipper Gearoid Lyons that laid the foundation for this victory as he kicked five penalties. Crescent were 9-0 up after eighteen minutes with three penalties from Lyons on 5, 12 and 18 minutes.

Three minutes later David O’Mahony got in for a try for Rockwell after good work by Sean O’Connor. Just on the stroke of half time JJ O’Neill scored a try for Crescent which Lyons converted to leave it 16-5 at half time.

Disaster struck for Rockwell six minutes into the second half when full back Steve McMahon was shown a red card for a dangerous tackle and Lyons converted the resulting penalty.

Crescent were now on top and Lyons kicked his fifth penalty on forty five minutes. Diarmuid Dee completed the scoring with a try sixteen minutes from time to the delight of the large Limerick following.
