Crescent To Meet Ardscoil Rís In Final

Crescent College Comprehensive are on course to defend their SEAT Munster Schools Senior Cup title following a 23-8 victory over Castletroy College today at Rosbrien.

Crescent College Comprehensive are on course to retain their SEAT Munster Schools Senior Cup title on St. Patrick’s Day where they will face Ardscoil Ris at Thomond Park after another excellent performance at Rosbrien before a very large attendance as they saw off the challenge of an excellent Castletroy College side that battled to the finish.

This was Crescents third Cup game in ten days and on this form it is difficult not to see them doing back to back titles and emulating the 1989/ 1990 winning sides. However a big worry for them will be the injury picked up by Calvin Nash who had to retire injured after eighteen minutes.

It was the under dogs Castletroy who opened the scoring with a drop goal from Mark McCarthy after five minutes.

Fionn McGibney had Crescent on level terms by the twelfth minute. Ten minutes before the interval Crescent hit the front when Sean Fitzgerald got in for a try, after good work by skipper Cormac Blake and Jason O’Sullivan. McGibney converted. A penalty by McGibney just before half time left it 13-3 in favour of Crescent at the short whistle.

Any hopes of Castletroy coming back into the contest were dashed on ten minutes of the second half when center JJ O’Neill got in for a try after great work by his inside partner Will Leonard and McGibney added the extras.

McGibney added another penalty before Ronan Murphy scored a consolation try for Castletroy to leave it 23-8 at the finish.
