Crescent College Comprehensive won the Bowen Shield as they came from behind to defeat PBC in Friday’s one-sided decider at Wilton 27-5.

A missed penalty midway through the opening half and bad handling short of the line approaching the break were to prove costly for the Pres’ as they were held scoreless after the interval.

With the wind at their backs for the opening half, the Mardyke College had Crescent on the back foot from the start. They opened the scoring in the eight minute when Daragh O’Sullivan barged over in the corner after receiving a kick ahead following a lineout inside the Crescent 22. Alex Walsh’s conversion attempt sailed across the face of the posts.

The Limerick side began to turn the screw and they opened their account five minutes later when the ball was spread out to Tony O’Sullivan from a lineout outside the PBC ten-metre line for a try behind the posts. Ben Davey followed it up with the simple conversion to put Crescent in the driving seat.

PBC were awarded a penalty midway through the opening half from which they opted for the points, but Alex Walsh’s shot from a kickable position outside the Limerick side’s 22 was narrowly off target.

The second half was one-way traffic in favour of the Limerick side. Davey extended their lead to 13-5 with two penalties in the third quarter.

In the final quarter the Mardyke College were pinned aback as James McKeogh and Colm Quilligan each scored tries and both were converted by Davey.
