Derby Wins For Cashel & Sundays Well
25th March 2016 By Munster Rugby
Both Nenagh Ormond and Highfield both failed to take advantage of their better positions in the leagues but the losing bonus point both sides picked up keeps them ahead of their rivals on point’s difference.
Nenagh Ormond lost at home to Cashel 11-6 in Division 2A and as a result both sides have gone ahead of UCC in the table for a few hours at least.
Aidan Barron scored a try for Cashel and Pat O’Connor kicked two penalties with Michael Walsh replying with two penalties for Nenagh.
In Division 2B Sunday’s Well defeated Highfield 13-6 and both these sides have drawn level with City of Derry at the top of the table.
The Ulster side with a game in hand have the better points difference with Highfield staying ahead of the ‘Well also on points difference.
Highfield elected to play into the strong wind in the opening half and their reliable kicker Paddy O’Toole was off target with two kickable penalties from in front of the posts in a half that Highfield dominated.
Two penalties from Shane O’Riordan on 5 and 40 minutes gave the ‘Well a 6-0 interval lead.
Seven minutes into the second half O’Toole opened Highfield’s account with a penalty.
Then a mix up between Highfield’s Chris Bannon and Paul Stack saw Greg Higgins cut through the Highfield defence and he passed to Owen Chandler who scored under the posts and O’Riordan converted for a 13-3 lead.
O’Toole kicked a second penalty on 59 minutes and Highfield dominated proceedings but a determined ‘Well defence held firm.
Then with the last play of the game a break from deep in the ‘Well half by Eoin Geary saw him being halted just on the Highfield ’22 and the visitors losing bonus point could see these sides meet again at Woodleigh Park in the play offs next month.
