9th March 2015 By Munster Rugby
Both Shannon and Sunday’s Well eked out wins over their local rivals in big derby games.
At Thomond Park U.L. Bohemian lost at home to Shannon 26-14 in Division 1B of the Ulster Bank League.
Richie Mullane scored Shannon's fourth try eighteen minutes from the end to round off a splendid local derby win for his club.
UL Bohemian urgently needed something from the game but despite a good start when Mossy Lawler had a fifth minute try they ended without even a losing bonus.
Lee Nicholas, Hugh Kelleher and Shane Mullaly had first half Shannon tries, two of which Tadgh Bennett converted with Ronan McKenna converting Mullane's try.
Adrian Bennett had a second try for UL Bohemian with Shane Airey converting both of their tries.
At Irish Independent Park a dramatic last minute penalty by Shane O’Riordan earned Sunday’s Well an 11-10 win over Midleton in Division 2B.
Despite playing into the gale a Shane O’Riordan penalty gave the ‘Well an early 3-0 lead.
Paul Daly had Midleton level with a penalty on the stroke of half time.
Eleven minutes into the second half Rob Smyth put Midleton ahead with a try which Daly expertly converted from the side line.
Alex O’Neill scored a try in the corner for the ‘Well mid way through the half and O’Riordan’s late penalty earned the home side the points.
In the other two games in Division 2B, Richmond slipped back into the Relegation places after DLSP and Boyne moved above them with away wins.
