Cork Constitution win Charity Cup as Cashel, Clonmel, Crosshaven and Tralee book their place in the All Ireland Junior Cup

Cork Constitution won the Cork Charity Cup for the fortieth time with a 26-6 win over U.C.C. at Musgrave Park.
Con’ dominated the early exchanges and three penalties from Richard Lane had the Temple Hill side 9-3 ahead at half time.
Andrew Burke kicked a penalty for the students. College closed the gap with a second penalty from Brian Kingston minutes into the second half.
Con’ took full control after this and two tries from Robert Clune and one by Michael O’Leary, one of which Lane converted saw the trophy head to Temple Hill yet again.

Cashel, Clonmel, Crosshaven and Tralee all booked their place in this season’s All Ireland Munster Junior Cup with victories in the quarter finals of the Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Cup.

Crosshaven knocked out holders Kilfeacle 24-3. Liam Delaney and Ross O’Connell scored tries for the winners and Delaney kicked four penalties and a conversion. Shane Luby replied with a penalty for the home side.

Tralee gave rugby a big boost in the Kingdom after their 30-17 home win over Cobh Pirates to become the first club side in Kerry to play in an All Ireland Club competition. Ger Breen scored two tries for the home side and John Gilmartin got one. Gareth Walsh kicked three penalties and two conversions and Brian Mullins got one conversion. Cobh replied with tries from Alan Langford, Mark Chandler and Brendan Mulcahy and Joey Hoyne kicked a conversion.

Cashel made amends for last season’s league defeat at Richmond Park last season with a 30-5 win over the home side. A Cian O’Connor try and three penalties and a conversion by Pat O’Connor had Cashel 16-0 ahead at half time. Michael Kelleher scored a try for Richmond early in the second half, but tries from Cian O’Connor and Darragh O’Brien both converted by Pat O’Connor saw Cashel into the last four.

Clonmel defeated Waterpark 15-11 at the Tipperary venue. The visitors led 6-3 at half time with two penalties from Garrett Dunbar to one by Conor Cooney. A try and a conversion by Cooney edged Clonmel in front but Waterpark regained the lead with a try from Richard Upton. Wojciefzak Krzyfztof proved Clonmel’s winner with a try.

Holders Galbally are through to the semi final of the Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Shield after their 26-7 home win over Killarney. Liam Casey scored twenty one of his side’s tally with two tries, three penalties and two conversions and James Taylor also scored a try.

Kinsale defeated a depleted Youghal side 32-18. Frazer Hodgson scored two tries for Kinsale and Brian Egan, Fintan Lawton and Shane O’Regan got one each. Peter Murphy kicked a penalty and two conversions. Alan Fox and Brendan Mackey replied with tries for Youghal and Jonathon Ormond kicked a conversion and two penalties.

A drop goal from Tommy Kelleher in the last minute gave Newcastle West a 16-13 home victory over Mallow. Matthew Ryan scored a try for the winners and Darren Hayes kicked a conversion and two penalties. Mallow replied with tries from Jim Malone and John McAuliffe and Ronan McCarthy added a drop goal.

Castleisland defeated Charleville 14-8. It was 11-3 at half time with Denis Leen scoring a try for Kerry side and Mark Connolly kicked three penalties. Shane Corkery replied with a penalty for the visitors and Matty O’Neill scored a try.

Waterford City advanced to the semi finals of the Martin O’Sullivan Cup when a last minute try by Dave Kennedy gave them an 18-14 win over Dungarvan. John Doran and Dave Whelan also scored tries for the visitors and Aaron Foskin kicked a penalty. David Hickey and Eoin Cunningham replied with tries for Dungarvan and Hickey and Conor Foley each kicked a conversion. Waterford will now face Corca Dhuibhne in next week’s semi final.

Scariff caused an upset with a 10-0 victory away to Abbeyfeale. Darragh McNamara scored a try for the Clare side and Robbie Madden kicked a conversion and penalty.

Presentation defeated Killorglin 21-17 to earn a semi final tie against Scariff.

U.L Bohemian booked their place in the semi final of the Transfield Cup with a 35-5 victory over St. Senan’s.

Nenagh Ormond proved too strong for Newport with a 26-13 win in the Garryowen Cup.

Richmond booked their place in the final of the McInerney Cup with a 15-6 home win over Thomond.

Ballincollig are through to the final of the Dennehy Cup after their 46-14 away win over Kinsale. Robbie Foulkes and Kevin Ryan each scored two tries for the winners and Kevin Doyle, Neilly Murphy, Conor Owens and Dave Lucy got one each with Ryan adding three conversions.

The other semi final between Cobh Pirates and Cork Constitution will go ahead at Cobh next Sunday.

Highfield and Old Christians will contest the O’Sullivan (Muskerry) Cup next Sunday.

Highfield defeated Dolphin 38-15 at Woodleigh Park, where Mark O’Sullivan and Wayne Ryan scored tries for Dolphin and Pat Ahern kicked a penalty and a drop goal.

Old Christians defeated Mallow 24-16. Pat Ryan, Peter Twomey and Kevin Gilmartin scored tries for the winners and Conor Mangan kicked three conversions and a penalty. Darren Owens and John Griffin scored tries for the North Cork side and Richard Dorgan kicked two penalties
