Emerging Schools Blitzes Continue Down West

St Patricks Castleisland and Colaiste Ide Agus Iosef Abbeyfeale both qualified for the finals day in Cork - Ray Gadsden

The Munster Emerging Schools Programme continued this week with a busy schedule throughout the province. The programme includes four rounds of 11-a-side blitz days held in eight different conferences.

The top two from each conference qualify for the finals day, which are scheduled to take place in Irish Independent Park on the 26th April and Thomond Park on the 27th April.

The latest of these for the West Cork conference took place this week in Skibbereen RFC, with the hosts Skibbereen Community School and Schull Community College qualifying for the finals.

Also, in Tralee, the Kerry edition saw St Patrick’s Castleisland and Colaiste Ide Agus Iosef in Abbeyfeale qualify for the Irish Independent Park finals.

Community Rugby Officer Ray Gadsden said on the blitzs’ completion

“This format has given players an opportunity to experience the game in a competitive environment.  Following on from this we have seen new players coming into the club scene which has helped increase numbers and give more players, more rugby.

“From our department’s perspective the quality of the rugby has improved from blitz to blitz and the competing schools should be proud of their players and a great finals day is something they can now look forward to.”
