Ireland U20s’ opening game of the U20 6 Nations was a night to remember for four emerging schools, who took to the field during half-time at Irish Independent Park on Friday.

Ballincollig Community School, Maria Immaculata Community College, Dunmanway, Midleton CBS and Clonakilty Community School all participated in games during the interval, which saw Ireland reverse a 20-24 half-time scoreline against England to emerge 35-27 victors.

The games were facilitated by Munster Rugby Development Officer, Eugene McCarthy, with refereeing on the night courtesy of Club Community Rugby Officers, Damien Hicks and Willie Schubert.

The aim of the Emerging Schools Initiative is to engage with students, in non-traditional rugby schools, and provide them with the opportunity to play and experience rugby.
