Erasmus & O’Connell Host Domestic Rugby Coaching Seminar

Munster Rugby recently hosted a Coaching Seminar at the High Performance Centre, University of Limerick with over 50 domestic rugby coaches in attendance.
Munster Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus and his coaching team delivered core content based on the Munster professional team set up, to invited Stage 4 and Stage 5 coaches from clubs and schools across the province.
The evening involved presentations on scrum development, backline counter attack, general play defence, general play attack and integrating physical fitness into rugby sessions.
Former Munster and Ireland Captain Paul O’Connell was also on hand and impaired his considerable knowledge to the domestic rugby coaches.
The veteran of 178 Munster appearances delivered a presentation on the ‘Big Rocks’ philosophy which incorporate the core skills of the game including catch & pass, breakdown, ball carrying & evasion and tackle technique.
Coaches will be encouraged to develop these core skills as the main emphasis on their players’ tactical, strategic and physical competencies.
This will be the main theme of delivery for the Munster Rugby Development Department in the coming season for clubs and schools.
Munster Rugby will be hosting the following Coaching Courses:-
Stage 1: U7 – U12
Saturday 16th September – Limerick
Sunday 24th September – Cork
Saturday 30th September – Waterford
Saturday 7th October – Tralee
Stage 2: U13 – U16 (also novice coaches of 15-a-side rugby without previous playing or coaching experience)
Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th October – Limerick
Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th October – Cork
